I cannot actually recall my last Visit to a Cinema Bill ,but think it was around the 1982 mark here in Sydney, it too was so loud and although a good Movie "Legionaire" i had to most of the time hold my Hands over my Ears and i am half deaf as it is!

Me and the missis still go we make a night out, out, of it last one i seen was Tom Hanks Captain Philips afterwards we had a meal and a drink in the town. { The missis had 2 wines and no more } Bugger that again I am still recovering. As for the sound I think its the size of the cinema you choose ENJOY Life lads, things will get worse before they get better good health all Terry.

Yes will agree with the Size of the Cinema Terry ,as these new ones which are all Together in say a big Shopping Complex are quite small and the the sound is too loud!
Not like Years ago the likes of nice large ones eg the Alhambra in Cape Town like te old Playhouse in Durban it had the Sky above with Stars shinning etc it was a grand old Theatre.

Like Bill I have a large collection of DVDs that has been built up over many years, too many movies to mention, also I have box sets of most
of the old sitcoms such as Only Fools, Steptoe, Rising Damp etc, these sitcoms were for me British humour at its best , then for nostalgia
I've got about 18 of SnowBow's collection of the ships we knew, most of it is still in packing boxes in the garage but I'm more organised now
so they will be coming back indoors and on the shelves, cheers.

Vernon, the Playhouse in Durban, not a good place for me got chucked out.

WE go to the movies couple of times a month, but not now they are all shut.
Lat one was The Current Wars, excellent if you like history.

I too and i know of many others who were thrown out of that place !
I was a few times and twice into the back of a Black Maria Head First mate! Ouch!!
Thank goodness i had British Seamans ID then always used it and got away with being kept in the slammer ,well after an overnight stay , with Swart Koffee in the Morning and a dry piece of stale Bread! Yuk!! Cheers

This thread has re-awaked my memory of the cinemas as I grew up in the 1950's & 60's. With a population of around 185,000 I can remember 15 cinemas then and the programmes changed twice a week and four had Saturday morning matinees so some choice. I think only one from then remains with a couple of these new all in one complex's.
My local one closed in 1966 the (Torriers!) as it was known.

There was Three cinemas in Wood Green, the oldest was the Rex known to us as the Flea Pit , then the Gaumont and the Ritz, in the
days before TV they did a roaring trade and you had some big queues outside in all weathers, Saturday morning pictures was a part of
life in the 40s and 50s, great memories of those days and our little gang, so different from today's gangs, cheers.

With the lock down in place all the movie theatres are closed.
But we have NETFLIX and the SBS to help out.
Some great ones on there, but my two favorite movies, 'West Side Story ' from way back in the early 60's and 'Paint your wagon' from the early 70's.
But to night on NETFLIX 'The Godfather' part one great movie.
