Default (Film) -Singing in the Rain - (1952)

A musical, comedy, directed by Stanley Donen (and Gene Kelly), starring Kelly, Donald O'Connor and Debbie Reynolds, it told the story of three singer/dancers caught up in Hollywood during that difficult time when the transition from silent movies to 'talkies' was taking place. The three leading stars of the film were ably supported by Jean Hagen, Betty Comden and Adolph Green, who gave the film added substance and class, and between them all they managed to create a film that would come to be regarded as the very best musical ever produced. Furthermore, in 2007, it was officially declared the 5th greatest American film of all time. Why such wondrous accolades, you might think ? .... why all the fuss?,,,, what made this film so special? Well, if it helps, below, I've included two scenes from the film. The first in which Kelly sings and dances to the title song 'Singing in the Rain' is now regarded as one of the very greatest cinematic scenes of all time. The second is a gentle reminder of just how very brilliant some of these 'old time' performers really were (Debbie looks as if she was really enjoying this). I hope you enjoy them as I do.

****There is an abrupt ending to the 'Good Morning' clip, for which I apologise, however it was beyond my control. For those who wish, there is opportunity to seek further information on this film and it's stars at the end of the clip.

    cheers, Roger

One of my all-time favourites, had me mesmerised. For the first time in my life of 12 years, I could walk into a shop and buy chocolate with just money and no ration coupon. Jam jars no longer acceptable tender at the ticket booth, and the price of a seat gone up to ninepence - but worth it.

Am I confused or did I hear that song in the movie 'An American in Paris'?
