Manchester Challenge
I am writing an article on the North Atlantic container trades - I am looking for a picture of the Manchester Challenge (or sisters).
I would be grateful if anyone could supply a picture I could use, particularly in the canal.
With Thanks,

If you are on Facebook you can join the Manchester ship canal group where there are pictures of the Manchester liners container vessels. Alternatively just Google Manchester challenge, there are a number of sites with pictures of her.

Re: Manchester Challenge
As John says there's plenty on the web.Bear in mind there were two Manchester Challenge's
1.IMO 6817704 built for Manchester Liners in 1968.Sold out of company in 1978.
2.IMO 7018343 built as DART AMERICA for TynedaleSg,Bristol renamed Manchester Challenge from 1981 up to 1988.
However, you probably mean the first one, originally built for ML.
Here they both are...

That second picture of the dart America is not the Manchester challenge, it is the OOCL challenge. There were three sister ships built for Dart line, founded by Bristol city line. DART stands for direct and rapid transport a name thought up by some office wallah, originally it was meant to be fast and rapid transport (think about it!!!) It was only when the headed note paper came back from the printers did they realise there mistake. Two of the ships were built on the Tyne and one in Belgium.
A good friend of mine, who was mate in Bristol city line, helped in the design of the totally enclosed bridge, a first I think for a British ship. I was mate on the C.P. ambassador, ex Dart Atlantic. They had been fitted with an ice belt later in life and despite being 20 years old at the time, she went like **** off a shovel, could still do 25knots and never needed ice breaker assistance to get up to Montreal even in winter. The three ships formed Canada maritime container service from Europe to Canada. The Belgian built one was manned and operated by Belgium outfit CMB, we had the ambassador and the challenge was manned and operated for OOCL by I think, Bibby line. Not sure of that but knew that they British officers.

Re: Manchester Challenge
Firstly an apology to Graham, the 2nd picture is indeed the Manchester challenge, obvious if you enlarge the picture. Don't know how long it was named Manchester challenge but when I was on its sister it was the OOCL challenge. A bit more information, when they got rid of the British officers they replaced them with Chinese, Hong Kong. They only lasted for a couple of trips as going up to Montreal there was a cock up and she ran aground on rocks, ripping out her bottom and had to be towed into Quebec drydock where she spent weeks getting the bottom plating renewed and the British officers returned.
