Another anniversary: 87 yearsago, on May 1st 1931, the iconic Empire State Bldg opened. For manyyears, the 102-floor bldg. was the tallest in the world.

In the attached view, from Jan 2011,it was "Cunard Day" in New York -- the three Queens were inport. The Queen Elizabeth is seen departing, the EmpireState Bldg on the right in Cunard orange-red coloring.

Myself, I was aboard the QEthat night, narrating from the bridge -- with the Queen Mary 2 & QueenVictoria just ahead of us & so forming the "royal procession"out of NY harbor. It was bitterly cold, but a spectacular occasion allthe same.
