    Contrast & comparison

4 Comments by Doc Vernon Published on 25th April 2018 10:09 PM

Over the weekend, the brand new Norwegian Escape madea short maiden voyage call here at New York ... the huge ship was en routefrom Europe to Miami ...
    But a contrast:
The Artania on the left dates from 1984 ... she wasthen the Royal Princess ... 44,000 tons & 1,200 passengercapacity ... and she was then one of the largest & mostinnovative cruise ships afloat.
But now, almost 35 yrs later, we come to the age of the $700million, German-built Norwegian Escape ... 165,000 tons & 4,300passenger capacity ... but while very big, she is not even in the top 10largest liners afloat.
Yes, the cruise industry booms & the ships themselvesgrow & grow!

Methinks the 'Artenia' is my type of ship, the 'Royal Princess' is just a floating town and its a hell of a long way down to the lifeboats!

Sadly you are correct Cappy, they are not like the ships we knew.
But they call it progress and like so much else it all moves on.
But whilst the exterior looks bad inside they are most modern and well presented.

Like the aircraft of today, nothing like the Wright Brothers first one.
    Happy daze John in Oz.
