The age of the raj also the Bremen and Arcadia

"The Himalaya (1949) was a ship very much leftover from the Raj," remembered Howard Franklin. "She wasvery British colonial in style."

One of our generous & skilled readers didsome touch-up work on today's 1968 photo of the Bremen. Like a paint job on the ship itself, itlooks much better.

    The Arcadia

"The Arcadia (1954) was one of my top favoritesat P&O," remembered Howard Franklin. "She had themost wonderful library -- and it overlooked the stern. It was always wellstacked with good books and had the most comfortable club chairs."

    Hi Doc
I was on the "Himalaya" as a Quartermaster Master in March 1968, a good ship two to a cabin, often unheard off in those days.

They were all ships that had a 'style' as was the case with many of that era.
Sadly I doubt the world, even with all the cruise ships out there, will ever see that style again.

They were graceful, well appointed , comfortable to the extreme for those who went first class, and an elegance from a former age.
    Happy daze John in Oz.

Last I heard Des it was up for sale on e-bay. LOL

But as no passenger liners now I doubt if there would be any interest in it.

The lad who owns VIRGIN won it last around 1987 ish, I spoke to him on the phone , he was the give way vessel.

I gave way to him to let him pass ahead off Lands end as he was in the last few minutes to get it,
