"The Himalaya (1949) was a ship very much leftover from the Raj," remembered Howard Franklin. "She wasvery British colonial in style."

One of our generous & skilled readers didsome touch-up work on today's 1968 photo of the Bremen. Like a paint job on the ship itself, itlooks much better.

    The Arcadia

"The Arcadia (1954) was one of my top favoritesat P&O," remembered Howard Franklin. "She had themost wonderful library -- and it overlooked the stern. It was always wellstacked with good books and had the most comfortable club chairs."

It was Richard Branson, owner of Virgin Group of companies.
He was on the Virgin Atlantic Challenger II it was 1986 The bessel was a fast ferry type of vessel. he had a couple of passengers on board to make it legal.
Under the business giant's ownership, the Virgin Atlantic Challenger II took the record for the fastest Atlantic crossing – three days, eight hours and 31 minutes – in 1986. The 72ft vessel was commissioned by Branson for the historic Blue Riband Transatlantic Challenge.

I taking an ESSO tanker round the Scilly isles bound for Ireland when he appeared going very fast on my port bow, . Plotted him on my RADAR and we were on a collsion course, He was the give way vessel.
I called him on VHF and Branson answered, I asked his intentions and he told me who he was and he only had minutes to spare to get the Record.
So I told him to carry on and I would slow down and even stop to let him get ahead, He did and won the Trophy.
I never got a "thank you."
    Brian
