Why do women wear panties? the answer is in the Health and Safety Manual, it says in paragraph 6 Section 2 "When manholes are not in use, they must be covered"

When living in the country as a kid in the early 50's (UK) heard a male neighbour ask the village shopkeeper for a packet of manhole covers, a year or so later it dawned on me what he meant. Oh to be young and innocent again.

Three young London socialite girls were talking, discussing their latest boyfriends. The first one said my boyfriend is a Sergeant in the Household Cavalry. Lovely said the other two. The second one said my boyfriend is a Corporal in the Grenadier Guards. Marvellous said the other two. The third one said my boyfriend is a Lance Corporal in the Ghurkas. The other two chorused you mean he's black. The third one replied don't be silly only his Privates are black, to which the other two replied "Oh my how contemporary" Sorry couldn't really convert that to Merchant Navy.
