Default Advice before going to Sea

My father who was an old salt gave me 2.pieces of advice before I embarked on my sea going adventures. 1.He said don’t get involved in ship board card games. 2 don’t bend down in the shower.
After duty in the engine room I was having a shower and dropped the soap. I sort of shimmied down the tiled wall to get it and the 3rd Eng asked what on Earth are you doing Lad ? I said My Dad Said never bend down in the shower He said your dad must have been at sea along time ago , We use the Battleship on wheels now for that sort of thing. Me being Me asked what is that? , he said come over here to the Porthole and I will show you . I duly went over and bent to peer out the Pothole ,I said I can see a Battleship but I don’t see any Wheeeeeeeels!

On my first trip my father asked the bosun a big west walian to look after me which he did, and trained me in seamanship for two years, that didn't avoid me being frightened, when after a few days at sea this big AB said in the mess room, that after three days at sea it is legal, and they all roared with laughter. 16 years at sea and I never come across any type of molestation going on, not at sea anyway.

He said that was just the roll of the ship.
The other guy said it felt more like a roll of carpet.
