If you do make sure it is one you can extend or retract, my wife has one which is great as if she wants to straighten up she only has to extend the stick, and she no longer has to bend.

Reminds me of my mother who used to have a hook on her walking stick, if we had been naughty she would wait untill we were in reach and hook us in for a smack.
