If he doesn’t reply he must be tied up Somewhere , maybe Mary has ambushed him and he is receiving the thousand cuts for revenge of not supplying her with the proper means of walking over the years. When my wife saw her sister doing this in NZ she was shocked, told her that was the best part of of the Broccoli, and she always cooked it.

Des, broccoli stalks at home would be up to the individual family but,
in any dining situation, why would anyone pay for stalks? They do
make a good soup but, not as a part of any other dish.

Trimmed off they are delicious eaten raw. Most veggie stalks can be eaten this way.
In Port Elizabeth I lived in just a room without kitchen so learnt to eat things raw quite a revelation as the taste is quite intense and must be very good for you.
I used to pass a salad shop coming home from work each day.....bought one every day so they used to make up special ones for me, amazing combinations.

Victoria, many food items are good for you eaten raw.

I learned to like raw Tripe that had ben pickled and raw Liver, (lambs Fry) all very tasty.
But of course Steak Tartare is still the very best.

All this raw food especially meat sounds like a handy way to get a Tape worm.

Tapeworm infection is caused by ingesting food or water contaminated with tapeworm eggs or larvae. If you ingest certain tapeworm eggs, they can migrate outside your intestines and form larval cysts in body tissues and organs (invasive infection).

    So this maybe helpful.

To prevent tapeworm infection: 1. Wash your hands with soap and water before eating or handling food and after using the toilet. 2. When traveling in areas where tapeworm is more common, wash and cook all fruits and vegetables with safe water before eating. If water might not be safe, be sure to boil it for at least a minute and then let it cool off before using it. 3. Eliminate livestock exposure to tapeworm eggs by properly disposing of animal and human feces. 4. Thoroughly cook meat at temperatures of at least 145 F (63 C) to kill tapeworm eggs Ö

I love salads but as a lot of our Salad Greens and Tomatoes etc still come from the EU Spain in particular. Always make sure they are well washed as a lot of fertiliser used out there is reconstituted sewage, especially in areas with a high expat community as they are usually full of s-ite

My wife washes all fruit and veg before using, which we buy from the farm shops, and usually IOW produce. Her argument is they are picking these in the fields, piddling where they are no hand wash etc. I should be careful Lewis, you could stop us all eating Irish spuds, lol, kt

#27, John nothing on earth could make me eat tripe cooked or raw same for liver unless I had been kidnapped and starved and only then to break free.
