The GEORGIC was another famous Battleship on the Ozzy coast.
There are a number of referances to the DM. and the Captain Cook, I first saw them in NZ in 1956, both were in Wellington at the same time i was on the Ruahine, even then the first night the two crews got together at the Trades Hall ( the dance hall that everyone from my era would have known ) there was a big bust up and some of both crews ended up in jail. from what i hear on that same trip the chief steward was thrown overboard into the dock off the C. Cook along with a load of the deck chairs, it used to be said that if you couldn`t get any other ship, that and the DM were the last resort.

After the Capt.Cook was scrapped a part of the catering dept.were transfered down to Tilbury to join the Orion. They had a massive punch with each other in Sydney, went from one end to the other, right down the Burma Rd,and onwards, they were mainly Glasgow blokes who I got on fine with.
i was in auckland in 67 on the Ceramic, there was a massive punch up between a port boat and another ship, may have been the Ceramic or Rangitoto,
