G'day Janner, thanks for the reply, yes I am from the old country, small town in the south name of London. There were some great pubs in Pert anad Freeo back in the 60's but sadly most have gone the way of all the good old ones. Hope you keep in touch with the site.
    Happy daze John in Oz.

    Hi Simon
Yes I remember the Uganda well do you remember the channel night coming up from Stanley ?
When about 20 of us merchant boys decided to have a piss up and the Army Sgts were watching the porn ?
We had Pink Floyds "The Final Cut" on and the Sgts decided to ask us to turn it down so of course we turned it up!
One of the 2nd cooks off the Rangatira got taken outside by one of the Sgts 2 mins later 2nd cook came back sans bruised knuckles ! I think the Sgt involved had a black eye !
Remember Breakfast next morning ? when the tannoy went and the skipper of the Uganda announced that "Would the merchant boys please refrain from beating the Army Sgts up !" and the room erupted in laughter !

    Cool

    42

I sailed on a canny few of the ships you've mentioned.

    Loch Lomond
    Loch Maree
    Troll Lake
    Troll Park
    Cast Otter
    Cast Husky
    Wellpark
    Caladonian Forest
    Exxtor I
    Nordic Louisiana

I've read a couple of your replies and sailed with Barra John (who is no longer with us R.I.P.),
Jimmy 'the Chef' Ryan and John (the Deke) Deacon.
There were some great characters sailing on Denholm ships in the 70's and 80's,
and a lot of tales to be said about times aboard (and ashore).

Maybe a few of the lads will send more updates when reading this.

    Mick Bell.

G'day Mick and welcome to the site. I fyou care to add some dates to those ships you may well get some replies from those you sailed with. While you wait sit back with a cold one and enjoy the voyage.

Thanks for the reply and advice.

I'll keep posted to the site now and then.

Keep up the correspondence with the ex Denholm lads and lasses.

I'm wandering (thinking of the lasses, if anyone remembers Dallas (Wireless Operator) in the 70's
and early 80's, and her hubby 'Mexican Pete' also Wireless operator, I had the good fortune to sail
    with them both.

Also Sylvia Aitken who was the personell officer in the offices in West George street during those
years. (She had the uncanny gift of getting in touch and offering you a job just when you were
skint but still had two weeks leave left, and you knew that the job was going to be crap as nobody
    else was volenteering for it.)

    All the best

    Hello mate

Thanks for the advice on adding dates to ships.

Obviously you were at sea a while before me, and I never had the opportunity to live in the f'cstle head
and supping conny onny. (Thank f**k for that!)

I still had to go through the deck-hand's ladder from peggy to A.B. and listened/learned from all
the old-timers, and big respect is due to you all.

    Mick Bell.

Default time on wellpark & sig ragne

Hi, I'm trying to find anyone who sailed with Donald (Dan) Maclean, from Barra, Scotland. His Daughter Jayne would like to know of his time on the MV Wellpark and Sig Ragne as she believes them to have been favourites of his. Any help welcome.

Sailed with a lot of chaps from Barra and up the Islands mainly on the box boats out of Greenock,
Honestly cannot say if I have sailed with Dan McLean,
Sailed with a lot of people while I was a Sea and the memory is not as good as it used to be,, sorry!
