So how is Jo'burg going Stephen lived there at one time in Mayfair West many Moons ago, and worked on the Busses and old Trams. JMT (Johannesburg Municipal Tramways) as Connie, gees those were the days running up and down the stairs trying to catch all fares, the Trams especially were always so crowded! Going down the Fordsburg Dip at full Speed was exciting too LOL
Oh Happy Days!

I did that trip Damascus - Tartuos - Damascus circa 1985 on a port survey, like you stayed awake, not so much the missiles, but the driver who thought he owned the whole road regardless of the size of the vehicle coming the other way. Then of course I had my 'minder', then there were numerous military checks each way, only problem was you never knew for certain whether or not they were bone-fide military, even the minder didn't know and was just as nervous as me when winding down the window. Got the first plane out heading west, ended up in Cyprus, quite fortunate really as there was a message for me on landing to do a port survey in Nicosia, which was quite perplexing, as Nicosia being inland, turned out they meant Famagusta
