There was no need to accept that, even when I was serving my time met bullys like that, would have gone and done the same to his cabin and told him the steward hadnt made his bunk properly. you may find in every job weather at sea or not there is always one in every firm? working on the seaforth container terminal digging the dock out we used to have bets one which eye was black on the foreman every week he would never learn a little fella all mouth but he give some lads a hard time waving and screaming all the time funny to watch him? jp
Hia Jim my dad Ernest Davies was on the Oregis for 2 trips in 57 (14/03 to13/04 and 14/04 to13/06) and 1 in 58(21/01 to 21/03) he was bosun on the first one and AB on the other 2 there are 3 photo's of him on the site
#83... Jim Brady... Just reading some of these older posts Jim, and see you had the privilige of sailing out of Port Talbot. Did you also have the privilige of knowing our beautiful Cindy. They reckon she had more sea time in than a lot of us at the time. Cheers John S
John it was a small place as you know I was knocking about with a girl just friendship realy.Anyway I was walking with her along the main drag there when a policeman on the other side of the road called me over he warned me that I had a good chance of being beaten up by her brothers I think she knew what the copper wanted me for.I still remember her full name but never kiss and tell.

Hi Judith I joined her in Sep 58 until march 59.I went through to Swansea one night with a lad that lived there, quite a few men from Swansea sailed on the ore boats.Quote:

hi gavin i was deckie on the oremina for awhile in 59 my first mrs came from port talbot her father was the lock keeper, got to know a few of the girls from port talbot in them days great memories, i also sailed on the essex a norwegian ore carrier only 3 months old when i joined her she still smelled new, she used to run out of port talbot , i have great memories of my 6/7 years in the merch working on a swedish ship which was my first ship 1957 a tramp cargo went anywhere it could get a load , then worked on a couple of norwegian ships and the a few english ones, packed up in 62 took up trucking uk and europe retired after 43 years doing that, now live in southern spain, i can honestly say i enjoyed both jobs if i had the chance i would have stayed in the merch a lot longer
