Chelsea Brass Marine Radio Room Clock.
Hi All,
Hope this request is in keeping with the forums rules etc. I have in my possession a Marine Radio Room Clock with both Silence periods highlighted in both Green (W/T Morse) and Red (R/T) in their allocated 3 minute segments.
The screw on type clock face is approx 6 inches Diameter, but unfortunately have lost the winged wind key. According to the serial number on the rear, it was issued back in 1982 to a semi submersible drilling rig built I think in the far East.
Does anyone know where I could possibly obtain a suitable wind key and possible value, as it's just sitting here collecting dust so might look at passing it on to someone who would appreciate it.
Thanks for any info you may have. Regards

Re: Chelsea Brass Marine Radio Room Clock.
Hello
Have you tried a Jeweller / Clock repairer ? They often have wind keys from previous repairs.

Must be Ive lost the key again. JS
Maybe Gypsy Rose Lee was some relation to Cappy , she was always asking to cross her palm with Silver , although she may have been referring to the Lone Rangers horse. No matter how you worked it out the most silver would have been 15 pieces , that would have been 15 silver threepenny bits. I had to use them to make the wife a bracelet before we were married. JS

Edward, there is a proper watchmaker in Newcastle, just along the road from St. Jameses park, R. Ormerod, 18 Leazes Park Road, Newcastle Upon Tyne NE1 4PG, worth a try.

Re: Chelsea Brass Marine Radio Room Clock.
The Chronometer on a ship was always wound daily at the same time so as to use the same part of the spring so as to keep whatever error it had to try and keep it constant if it was say losing 2 seconds a day and you missed getting a time check you at least had a good and accurate idea of the time for your sights. The R/O however used to keep his own clock accurate as he took the time checks from the radio room . Others the chronometer and all other clocks was the 2 mates job. JS
PS it was only with the advent of the chronometer that one could calculate one’s longitude.
Latitude one could find without at noon when the sun reached is highest altitude. The old sailing ships used to find the latitude they wanted and then run east or west till they found land , which became known as running your eastern down. JS

Re: Chelsea Brass Marine Radio Room Clock.
I found the catalogue for Wardles on my hard drive, here are the pages on keys, never knew there were so many different types of clock winding keys, give them a bell and they will tell you how to measure up for a key.
