Maybe he romanticised the story for me as I was a young child when he told me, he was a very honourable man and would never risk the life of any crew on his ship. He would have understood the implications and would have taken this seriously. Thank you for pointing this out. Everyone on this site is helping me understand a bit more about his history onboard. I am very grateful for all the replies and comments you are all providing.

Linda most seamen in general started off at sea with romantic ideas , the same as others ran away to join the circus. With time and growing up some of those ideas disappeared into the background and one learned you were there to work for a living , and sometimes that living did not correspond to ones asperations. That is Life and one lives it as it is thrown at you.. I have no regrets about living a seaman’s life , as the other options also had their down sides. One has only oneself to blame how they live their life. The general public do not know half of the conditions at sea which varied most of the time. Live with your dreams , they are sometimes better than the truth. Regards JS

I appreciate it is not an easy job and neither did my dad, he brought us up with a very strong work ethic and I myself trained as an engineer to follow in his footsteps, I gave this up in the 80's and changed career to broadcasting as I experienced a lot of discrimination in Scotland as a female working in a so called male profession. I never forgot the lessons learned or the ability to think in a logical way, something I am sure all of you did during your career on water, it is a dangerous profession to choose and you must be alert at all times, I was taught to look at all aspects of any task and always believe in your own ability to overcome challenges. This are the qualities that made my dad who he was, I just wish he discovered your website before he passed away, it would have given him a greater sense of how important you all are and himself. Thank you again, and yes, life with dreams is the best reason to continue....

Question Re: Uniform Query / Fellow shipmates Lochiel Scotland

    Hi,

I have finally found someone who will create an image of dad which he would be proud of, however, I still haven't been able to find his cap badge in colour, I have searched the internet and found so many but can't match to the attached picture, any more assistance would be very much appreciated.

    Thanks again

    Linda

Thank you, does anyone have a colour image I can use to have the artist copy? That would be amazing.... I don't know what the official MN colours are.

I feel that he may have been Working for the Anchor Line New Zealand at some sage as the Cap Badge displays the Anchor.
