    Default The Eyes have it

Last month I was over the moon at getting my eyes past by an optician for my license, on Monday I got another letter from the Motor Transport to ask when I was getting my eyesight test, I dashed down to the optometrist, to see what the story was , boy relief when I found that the bloke who had now left had forgotten to send in his report, they immediately did it. Phew| Hough I would have to gt a gogher.

That’s similar to me Des , but I broke my hip in the meantime and had other things to worry about , my eye test was never sent in. Since then other medical problems with both self and wife who had failed hers, have arisen so never got round to reapplying. Never mind it’s a double seater gopher. Cheers happy driving . JS

Funny thing how road rules vary between the states.
Nothing like that down here in Vic.
But we were in Ireland as part of our recent trip.

My brother in law there is now 93 and still drives.

As I am over 75 I have to have a letter from my GP and a copy of my vehicle insurance to be able to hire a car there.
My wife was born there, and now holds an Australian passport she can hire a car without any problem.
    Happy daze John in Oz.

Over here all we have to do is sign the letter to say we are well and have no problem driving.
    No medicals or eyesight tests.
We have do it every 3 years once you are 70.

Last time in uk Graham we hired a car I was just over 80 and the wife a few years younger. Had to go in her name although I had an International licence also. Was told if I wanted to drive would cost a lot extra for the insurance. So she was the only designated driver , suited me don’t mind being chauffeur driven . Cheers JS.

i quit driving a few years ago because of macular degeneration, it is hereditary from my mothers family, since having the strokes my eyesight is now also very burred.
I'm writing an MN thread but need to use larger print to be able to check my own words are correct. I hope this wil be acceptable to all on site, can only do a bit at a time now. cheers JF C.

My daughter who worked in Age care for 30 years just came up; and between us, {She} called the Govt services that do an interview over the phone for Govt Transport, the bloke on the phone, [An Hour} was brilliant did the asesment and now I have Govt Transport to take me to Canberra for my eye check, after that I will get them to take me for the operation, she also got us seven vouchers for the taxi service here in town if we need it. I wasn't looking forward to getting my eye done but now it will be hopefully a lot easier.

Well done Des, as we know gov departments are not always what they should be.

I had a phone call from the local community health center.
Wanted to know if I had received a voucher for the dentist
When I said no, she asked me why not??

I told he how was I supposed to know the working of gov departments, half the time they do not know any way.

    Hi Des
I have had bothmy Eyes done and i was a wee bit apprehensive before as well, but mate i could not believe how easy and painless the entire procedure was!
Never felt a thing, and the Nurses and Doctor were terrific.
Just a bit of a nusuince after the Op of course with the Patch over the Eye and the Drops and Ointment that one has to use!
But only took me four Days in Total, then i was good, of course still on the Drops for some time.
But also with my Glaucoma in Both Eyes, am still on Special Drops Twice a day in each Eye.
The sight is very good i must say, and when you are over the first few days , when you open your Eyes for the first time properly, Boy! all so Bright and Clear!
    All the best mate!
    Cheers

I see a specialist eye man every two years, the other I go to the local OPSM.
Went there this year as not happy with my eye, can I get some knew ones I asked.
No they said, but for a simple $525 I got new lenses in my frames, work weel.
Have to have distance ones to assist me when driving, have them as shades and wear them every where I go, they only come off at home.
Got sorted with the dentist, getting a new top set for $149, not bad on MEDICARE
