Many NHS hospitals here will also take in private patients , the hospital benefits from the extra money.
Some surgeons also do a couple of medicare operations a week.
Aho worked on my wife's knee was told by medicare he was doing too many medicare ops per week, he is one of the private ones.
But basically our system works, yes some waiting time but our emergency is world class as I know from recent experience.

John, many of us bitch about the NHS in the UK, myself included. I have been rushed to hospital twice in the last 2 months. Standing in the kicthen getting the dinner ready. woke up with the wife and two paramdics getting me on a gurney and away we go. Two days on a drip completly dehydrated. This is the second time. My blood pressure bombs and time for a wee sleep. Ambulance took 20 mins to arrive.
You hear of cases were the Ambulance has been 2 hours before arriving.
My probllem is the GP had my meds all screwed up. Blood pressure dosage all wrong. Water tablets all wrong. I was weeing for Britain hence the dehydration,
Been okay for a week or so. GP upset me just before christmas. Either I surrender my driving licence or he will advise the DVLA. I have not driven now for over 4 months, my decision as I would never forgive myself if I had an accident and injured some poor soul. So come the new year that will be the car insurance going through the roof. My wife has always been a named driver on my policy but I will be surprised if they will apply my NCB entitlement to her.

Similar problem here at times with Ambos.
Some idiots think they are a private service to get into hospital rather than go to their GP for what turns out to be a minor issue.
Worst offenders are some of the Ethnics causing all manner of problems for genuine cases.
But with an ageing population we need more ambos and not enough are taking it up as a career.

James, sorry to hear about your problem, maybe a few more cold ones might keep you well hydrated.

I'm quite satisfied with our medical system. Especially with our medical cannabis prescriptions. By the way, do any of you take CBD? What's the situation in the USA or other countries with it?
Here in the UK, you need to be eligible to take it. More detailed here: medical cannabis eligibility, but the point is that not everybody can just take it.

Sorry Cameron, I cannot help you perhaps there's another Former Brit/Brit member here in the states can answer. I suggest you just google something like "What are the laws for individual use of marijuana (or others) in the USA?"

I have never used it, not a puff and had no desire or curiosity to sample it. I'm not a prude and don't condemn occasional users, but not in my house. And I wouldn't knowingly visit someone who's using, I'd be afraid my clothing would absorb the aroma and if I were stopped for a minor traffic violation and the aroma transferred to the interior of my car, I could get busted.

My late middle son was a doper, he finally became clean and took up religion as a replacement. It and he became obnoxious. I have a glass of wine with my dinner and my late wife, and I would have one drink after dinner. Andrew, my son had the balls to say, "You will burn in hell."

Save me from extremists.

My wife was wondering about the Cannabis oil for her knees as they are all worn out, but then as I said it is only a temporary help, nothing can cure it, only an op but she can't have that as she wouldn't survive, so we keep on keeping on.

Two or three years ago, our very unpopular PM decided that the government needed more income and taxes. So he legalizes the use of marijuana. apart from provincial government getting in on the chance to make a few bucks, they opened it up to private enterprise. I live in a small town of about 6000 people and before long we had 3 pot shops open up. They seem to be doing ok, none have closed, but I don't think the feds are making a killing on the taxes etc.. I have tried it without the THC part for severe back pain, but find it does nothing for me... So have to rely on the Doc foe my fix..

In regards to the medical treatments here in Canada I have no complaints about the service i receive...In 2019 found out I had bladder cancer, got in very quickly to see the specialist and soon started treatments, even through Covid, never missed an appointment... After the chemo and a scrape of the bladder the scope showed everything looked good, so now we will wait for 4-6 months and have another scope to see any change....From time to time are experiencing a shortage of doctors and nurses in the emergency depts, so they close the depts overnight and direct people to closest hospitals...Of course we are getting the overflow from the Ottawa hospitals where the wait times are up around 10-15 hours at times. But on the whole we cannot complain at the service we receive. My benefit package I received on retirement is for life and doesn't cost me anything, anything other than direthe drug sstore will charge me ct medical treatment is covered at 80% by the the insurance as is dental and glasses. My wife has insurance package that I can access for the difference (20%) and she can tap into mine for the difference. We both have the same dentist and our appointments are automatically set for 6 months..... My medication is pretty much free, I have a lot, the odd time they will charge a small fee.....So I feel life is not too bad at the moment. Stan
