Re: Over 60
Worked in the Gold Mines in South Africa as a Stoper some 16000 feet down, and yes saw many Men with the dreaded pneumoconiosis. In those days the Ruling was not as strict and many a Miner did not take enough precautions of Watering down after and a Blast! Even when cleaning the Stopes one would Water down to keep Dust at Bay.
I was fortunate to have done the correct thing at all times and now not suffering with it, thank the Lord!
Saw my dear Uncle though slowly die of it and it was something that was not very nice at all.
Cheers

#70 Tom assume you were inspired musically by the song Superhalitosisexperabidocious or similar. myself preferred the little white bull by Tommy Steele , easier to spell. That Tomato juice does wonders for the brain. Cheers JS

Cappy, the tax varies from state to state as does the requirements of age related tests.
Some as young as 165 can get a licence while in other states it is 18.
In some you have to take an annual one when you turn 75, but here in Vic no such rules.
Same as Road worthy, in some every year once the vehicle is over 3k, here in Vic only when changing hands or if rego runs out before renewal.
Here in Victoria the road tax on any car is currently about $780 but as a senior we only have to pay half that.
Only allowed one car per person at that charge so one in my name, other in the wife's.
Insurance varies so much, I pay $829 this year with the insurance company of the bank, but it could be as high as $1500.
Happy daze John in Oz.

Re: Over 60
#75... I was pleasantly surprised when informing the RAC insurance on change of cars, the increase in insurance as far as I can gather is only about $ 50 a year from the 16 year old one we traded in. She asked how much did I want to insure it for so I took off all the VAT which automatically comes off the value as soon as you buy and quoted a figure about $5000 less than I had forked out. She said as we had been a customer for nigh on 30 years we got it a bit cheaper. the usual shop talk no doubt. But as had budgeted for more could celebrate with a Hamburger at Hungry Jacks. Cheers JS

Re: Over 60
hi john sabourn #72
as it transpired whilst living in spain, the neighbours two young boys used to teach my wife and myself some spanish whilst learning english from us, after a couple of months they came to the house one day and both of them excitingly
asked did we know the phrase from the mary poppins film, ie Supercalifraggilisticexpiallidous, my wife and myself repeated the line in unison to there amazement and we where asked to repeat again and again,so my tendency to sing out these lines waned a little, but your song Superhalitosisexperabidocious, although having similar sounding rhyme, sounds like something out of the flintstones with fred telling barny he has bad breath with or due to his depraved behaviour, as for the tomato juice he most likely needed that to clean his mouth out.
