I consider my consumption of prescribed medication as a life support mechanism, although I suspect one or more of them may be past MY use by date. GP's usually keep prescribing willy nilly unless you have a reaction even after an annual review. The answer seems to be, if it ain't broke......

Yes, every year new drugs appear on the market and of course they must be used.
But both myself and my wife both in our middle age 70's are very lucky we need no medication.
Luck or birthright I am not sure but thankfull when I see some coming out of the pharmacy with a bag load of pills and potions.

As regards penicillin , it wasn’t a subject that was advertised too much at the time but in the USA there was nearly a pandemic of loosely saying Vietnam Rose which most will know its source. Returning troops from the port of origin were quarantined as and when required , penicillin lost its affectiveness against this insidious disease as it had built itself into another strain and was imperious to the curative drug. Something similar appears if one can believe reports of different strains of the one the world is now living with. JS
