Just a little tale to cheer you up Mike. I had the op on my left eye, left hospital my son drove, we were staying at a Motel, had to go back next day to have the bandage removed so we went into a club for dinner, standing in the Que two ladies in front of us turned around and seeing the bandage on my left eye, one said. Oh! eye operation , I said yes, bloody nusience, as when I'm driving can't see anything coming from my left, they nearly fainted.
You'll be as good as new.

Every 2 years you also have to make an appointment for a practical test which is about a 15 to 25 minute drive around town as directed. Just a drive around - no parking or the like but you are being tested for your driving skills, particularly strict observance of the road rules, signs, pedestrian crossings and the like. The restricted license is 5 km radius of your home but reluctantly they will increase this 10 or perhaps more if a very good reason can be given.

There is a Medical and driving tests folder available from Roads & Maritime in Katoomba Council Chambers.

We have none of that down here in 'Mexico', only bit like it is a 20 klm radius on some drivers who may have issues.
One I know had a stroke so now only the 20.

All the checks have been done and they will operate on my left eye in 8 to 12 weeks.
    Keeping my fingers crossed.
The time period gives me lots of time to worry about the operation.

Try to put it out of your mind for a bit. You cannot do anything about it, worrying won't change anything. I was like you but I managed to keep myself interested in other things which kept my mind off my eyes as much as possible. The 8 to 12 weeks will soon pass and the next thing you know it will all be over with and you will be using your new eye. The success and benefits of my first operation reduced my worrying dramatically and I actually found myself looking forward to the second knowing that it would all be over soon and everything would be fine and it was.

    Vernon.
Whatever you do do not get the restricted license, I inquired when I saw the Dr last time, he said when you get a restricted license you go from A to B with no deviation, example, from home to the Drs, you cannot call into a shop, business or even family on the way, or back, and you are restricted to drive only to the DR, there is no restricted license that will allow you to say drive fifty Kilometers in any direction, which is what I thought. That is why its restricted.

    Mike.

Because of my bum left eye, it was marked on my license that I must wear glasses. As I said I had 20/20 in my right eye and a lens as thick as the bottom of a coke bottle would do nothing for my left. In order to satisfy any official who might stop me, I had glasses with plain glass that changed to sun glasses in the sun, thus the licensing folk where happy.

As my eyes got cataracts I switched to bifocals, increasing the power as needed.

I had the operation and the licensing department said I no longer needed to wear glasses, yet I'll always have the bum eye.

I do need reading glasses though for my good eye so I'm back to bifocals with plain glass on the top.

    Cheers and no worries, Rodney

Funny how most of us have the Left Eye problem worse!?
Besides my Cataracts my left Eye was Operated on in 1982 for detached Retina, they took the Eye out the Socket to repair it with Laser beam.
I looked like i had god 12 Rounds with Rocky ! LOL

Anyway not long now for my Initial check with the Eye Specialist in Lithgow then a date for the actual Op.
I have been told that they will only do one Eye a a time though,so that makes waiting a bit linger between Eyes! Grrrrr!!

At present wear Glasses ( Multi Focals ) so will see what happens after all this is over!
    Cheers

My date is 11th March!! Initial!!

All being well Vernon you will have great sight once again. Having gone through the process I can heartily recommend it, the results are well worth it, the worry and anticipation are understandable but all will be a great relief and and great result.

Margaret and I had our ops in Lithgow Hospital with Dr Paul Adler. He used to have in consulting rooms at Bathurst when I went about 10 years ago but then he moved to Katoomba. The reason we had one eye at a time was a safety measure. She'll be right Vernon.
