    Default Cataract Surgery

Ok so here we go,Today i have Faxed my Referral for Eye Examination ,measuring etc to an Eye Surgeon, as I have to have Cataracts removed from both Eyes. At present the Right Eye is the worst but as said have to have both done!
Now as the list is very long,i only have an initial Consultation in January next Year on the 23rd so no worry yet!
What I am asking is how many (I am sure there are quite a few) that have had this done ,and although I certainly am not worried am more curious as to how it feels etc,
This has to be done,as they are getting worse, and my Optometrist told me that he cannot keep passing me for Driving Test Each Year, he said that next time I am due for a Driving assessment he may have to put on the Form that I can only Drive restricted Distance of about 50 KM. That would be awful,as I go nearly every Week for my Outing, something that I really enjoy, but can fully understand why he says that,as there is the issue of safety not only for me but for all .
So the quicker I can get this done the better,as said I was lucky to get this first step, but have been told that the actual date for Surgery could take up to 9 Months! Damn!! LOL
    Cheers

Snap Vernon , I’ve been waiting for over a year now and still no signs. My wife has just had her second one done and took 2 years for the 2 of them. If you go private is much quicker but have to fork out quite a lot of moolah Is much cheaper for a white stick. I don’t drive at night now and have just received a referral for the re issue of driving licence as over 80. I keep on saying I’m only 40 but no one believes me. JS

Vernon, Terri had both done no worries all very simple and back to normal in a couple of days.

Done semi private only had to pay for anasthetic person rest was covered by Medicare.

Waiting time a couple of weeks, done in the local day hospital.
    Happy daze John in Oz.

One other point which I raised with the feral gov but is legal, any one over 70 can be charged an additional $70 for anesthetic for some odd reason.

I had my left eye done should've gone back for my right eye but been told many times by different opticians that my right eye is well gone,so I thought why bother with the cataract.I remember when my father had his done I think they used to do both eyes at the same time as they said the pain was so bad people would not come back to have the second one done if they did one at a time,I know my father was hospitalised for a week or so at the time.I don't see where surgery or anaesthetic comes into it,I seem to recall drops or something and having to wait an hour or so,laying on the table wide awake with lots of water running onto the eye and it was all over in less than half an hour.unbelievable how far and clear you can see after having it done,I stopped driving as I thought I could be a danger on the road,I got so used to not driving that I never took it up again,in any case most times I go out there is a drink on the end of it.

    Regards.
