Re: South central ambulance service
#1, Hope you are fully recovered from your fall Rob and you're all good now, when I read your post I had just read in our
local rag that on 30 December a local man took bad with an extremely bad headache, it steadily got worse and his wife called
for an ambulance, after giving details of his symptoms she was told an ambulance would be sent, some hours later the man's
eye started to droop and he had a nose bleed, his wife phoned again and told them of his symptoms and that he was in agony,
once more she was told an ambulance would come, the ambulance turned up five hours after the last phone call, it was now
3:30 am and thirteen hours after the first call. The wife said the Paramedics that turned up were brilliant and he was taken
to the hospital where they did test, they found he had a bleed on the brain caused by an hemorrhage and he was critically ill
he was transferred to another hospital for intense care, he is still under treatment and now recovering, the Ambulance Service
can't comment on this case as there is an ongoing investigation but they did say it was a very busy day with 1,300 calls in Essex, I wonder how many of those were not genuine emergencies. Cheers JFC
Re: South central ambulance service
Well Rob, on reading about how excited you were in that loo, I'm wondering how many times you fell down the engineroom stairs when the salinity alarm went off.
Take care.
Fouro.
Re: South central ambulance service
The best thing to do is to put the ill person in a car and take them to the Hospital, must be a family member or neighbour available. , much quicker than an ambulance.
I have done that in the past. much better than waiting.
Re: South central ambulance service
I was back I the UK a few weeks ago when Dad had his heart bypass surgery. Now I spent 15 years as a paramedic and maintain my registration just in case...
Well after he was discharged he ends up back in A&E, Whilst there I saw a notice reminding nurses/doctors to ensure that drug overdose patients were discharged with a prescription for Narcan - the drug which effectively reverses heroin overdoses. Not sure if that a good thing saving ambulance call outs or a failure I the system to deal with drug addicts!

hi robpage
sorry to hear of your bad health but have you thought of a pogo stick which can strengthen the leg muscles and possibly a skate board for getting around on may ease your aches and pains. keep laughing its the best medicine:p

Re: South central ambulance service
Re ambulance cost, here in Ontario the service on the whole is very good, not sure how things are in the big cities around Toronto area. There is a basic $45.00 charge. You have to be a resident and hold a Ont health card and number. There are exemptions such as social security and people on benefits, but the fee is applied up front and has to be authenticated. Back in the late nineties when my late wife was going through a bad patch with cancer, I found the response times of the local ambulance service could be counted in minutes not hours, regardless of the time of day.

But one problem is with the ethnic groups who think it is the way to go, similar may have been the way in their country of origin so they continue.
We also have a phone service 24/7 with nurse on call. If you need attention you ring the number and a nurse takes the call, she will then make a diagnosis as to what level of care you need.
But mate falling off a Zimmer frame, you really do need to take more water with it.
Maybe a motorized one is the way to go V8 maybe?LOL.
But on a more serious note I hope al is well now.
hi happy daze john
just as in oz we have as you point out immigrants of third world heritage and eastern Europeans whom call a ambulance out for a in grown toe nail or turn up to a hospital emergency centre for cold, it is not because this is the practice of their own countries, it is soley because they pretend they do not understand the system or speak our language, and reason is they do not give a flying fig, because the system will welcome them with open arms, whilst turning away a indigenous old age pensioner suffering from hypotherma

Re: South central ambulance service
It would be easy to blame immigrants but in this area the biggest problem is a concentration of substance abusers who are normally domiciled in the United Kingdom and are several generations back UK citizens. They are not just unemployed but they're unemployable and you will find that they are the third generation of people who have never had a job don't want a job and live on benefits you can go to an estate here and find a woman who has 45 children by four or five different fathers and then go a few doors away and find the same batch in Fathers of side a similar pattern of children an awful lot of these guys have bipolar I don't have any answers for it but legalising cannabis won't help all they'll do is grow Sam and make an income stream . They sell the Old bicycle has been borrowed from somewhere else , and they top themselves up with cheap cider . The biggest majority of immigrants at the hospital have a general group title called nurse or doctor . Portsmouth as a huge homeless problem I don't know how many people are living out on the street but there's quite a few . And do know how to claim everything they're entitled to .

Hi Rob
my son is in the middle of all these bums, druggies and plonkies trying to sort them out but there is an endless stream of them.
