Hi Vernon.
I was under the impression that once you had cataract surgery you could throw your glasses away, this is so; for people who have slight vision problems because of the cataracts, but though I could watch Tv after it for the first few days, I was told that I would still have to wear glasses. I still have a bloodshot eye, reminds me of the day after the night before. They say it will take a week to settle; so I might have to use a pin for the horses.
Cheers Des.
Thanks you all for your messages of good luck.
Des, had both 'inter ocular implants' (cataract surgery) done more than a decade ago and the options I had were to have clear close reading vision or distance vision without glasses. I opted for the distance vision and now at 86 I still do not need glasses to drive my car. There is another option and that is to have one eye at short clear vision and the other for long clear vision. This is because the eyes compensate and adjust to both. I was not all that sure I would like the adjustment period hence I am happy to have a pair of reading glasses for the short vision.
Here is a Mayo Clinic sheet that is well worth studying. I am very conscious of my diet and having my big 'well being' guru dog taking me daily on the leash to keep us both fit.
Cheers, Richard
Her indoors had both her cataracts removed and now does not need reading glasses.
I have been told that there are some beginning on my eyes but not big enough yet to remove.
Had to have glasses for driving but had them made as sun glasses as with the light here you need them most of the day. However at night I can see very well on the road without them.
For those with eye problems be assured you will be Ok. Eye procedures have come so far over recent years that now options such as cataract removal as now as simple as can be.
Hi John.
I have three sets of glasses, one that I use every day but also use them to drive they are distance glasses, one old pair that I use for the comp, and one pair of reading glasses. But my eyes are playing a few tricks, I have always used glasses to watch TV now i can watch without, I can also walk around without glasses where as before my eyes got a bit lazy. Have to go for a post op inspection on Monday then it should be all plain sailing I hope.
Cheers Des.
Ps Never cost me a cent for the op, all on Medicare.
I have reading glasses which I use when on the computer.
With TV I can see fine but some small print is at times a bit hard to read.
However if I have been out for a long drive wearing my driving glasses I find that for the rest of the day and night I can see the small print on TV fine.
Hi All.
here is something to give you a little laugh
After my surgery I had a patch on my left eye, my son and i went to the local club for dinner; standing in front of us in the line were three women, one turned around and said "Ho! you have had cataract surgery." I said. yes, then I said, "I was glad I brought my son with me; as when I was driving from the hospital he could tell me if there was anyone coming from my left." There were gasps and shouts of "Your not supposed to drive." It took a few minutes for the penny to drop ha ha.
Cheers Des
