A lady doctor was on TV last night I think she was from Cumbria.I think her practice used to have 6 GP's now down to 2,she said she leaves home at 7.40am and arrives home at 11.00pm how can she function doing hours like that

My son leaves home at 7am and starts at 8am he finishes at 8pm and is home at 9pm and alternative weekends is back on Call. so it is not a five day week it can be a 12 day stretch. and out for 14 hours a day. He does his ward rounds of 40 plus patients without a break takes around 5 hours then afternoon in the theatre, Liver transplants etc.
when he finishes at 5pm a cup of coffee and then starts his evening clinic until 8pm, He said too many patients or he could never fit every one in.
    ..
I cannot understand why we have such an unhealthy nation.
People do not look after themselves any more, wasn't like this in the 40s and 50s.
Too many are Obese and all that brings with heart, disease etc,, diabetes and those diseases that brings, alcohol and smoking related diseases, etc, many people live on take aways, fatty junk foods because they are too lazy to cook a healthy meal.
Many people do not exercise any more. People look after their cars more better than they look after their own bodies. But you cannot trade in your body for a newer model.

The AB in Shields in 57 had probably never tasted lamb before he went to sea. I can remember the war rationing, and was lucky if you saw potted meat. I never saw a banana until well after the war, though do have a childs memory of one around a candlestick on the mantelpiece before the war one Christmas. Today under ECU rules would be disallowed as being too bent in shape. One of the masters in Runcimans the first time I sailed with about 1957, Freddie Lamb would never have printed on the menu sheets, had to be called mutton. Knowing the Chief Steward also, probably was. Cheers JS

Hi Thomas, GPs are not Specialists, only General Practitioners.
If In doubt I always ask to see the Consultant in that problem , at the best hospital I can find, you do have a choice, of Hospitals.

    hi king kong
going to the hospital not recommended and this why the hospitals cannot manage its because the doctors are either understaffed or closed in some cases or simply don't have the medical experience to diagnose the correct illness last time I went to the hospital I had broken or fractured my ribs a couple of months ago. my wife had woke me up stating that I was crying with the pain in my sleep and so forced me verbally to go to our local hospital, when we got there the place was full, and at least half where drunk and at least two thirds where eastern European with one drunk eastern european screaming that he had been there for three hours with a cut the size of a finger nail on his head and he wanted to be attended to now because of his human rights,
after being told by the nurse that the waiting time was seven hours yes 7hours I decided that I was not going to sit in line with these scumbags so I went home needless to say the ribs are still healing and I cannot wait to get out of Europe, For believe it or not I believe that because the labour party allowed more than five million immigrants into this country I think it just may be imploding on our health system together with housing schools and social system but what do I know I'm just a seventy year old ex seaman

    Hi Thomas,
when I said go to a Hospital, I meant , your Doctor, if he cannot give you the right treatment, you can ask to see a Consultant, in any hospital you choose, in that particular illness or disease. [ NOT A&E]
I had two major operations in Hawaii, when I left hospital there the Surgeon told me, when I get home to see my Doctor and ask for a MRI Scan on my Pancreas, as I had Oedema on the Pancreas . I saw my regular Doctor and he said `No you do not need one,` even tho` I had the letter from the Hawaiian Surgeon,
I left his office and went to reception and asked to see another Doctor, she looked at my letter , picked up the phone and telephoned a Private Hospital, this was on a Monday, She then said , go to that Hospital and they will give you an MRI Scan on Wednesday, 48 hours later I had the scan and they even gave me two DVDs of the scan to keep. I can put it on my computer and do a tour of all my insides, very interesting,
So If your Doctor will not send you to an appointment with a Specialist Consultant at the Hospital of your choice, see another Doctor within that practice.
I have seen my Doctor again last week, had an ECG, and she said she would send me to see a Cardiologist at any Hospital I chose to go to. I am now awaiting an appointment at Salford Royal Hospital reputed to be in the Top Four Best Hospitals in the Country. No probs. there.
I do Not go to A&E. Your Doctor should Book you an appointment with a Specialist Consultant.

If your Doctor tells you to go to A&E tell him to get stuffed and change your Doctor.

    Regarding A&E,
All drunks and Druggies should be seen to in a separate unit. with Bouncers on Stand by. and then charged for any treatment.
If they can afford to buy booze and drugs, then they can afford to pay for treatment.

People who are ill or had a genuine accident should not have to put up with that kind of scenario.

When I broke Five Ribs, when I was steel erecting, some Steel fell on my back just as I bent down to rig a sling, or it would have gone through my head,
The hospital just gave me some painkillers, they said they do not do anything with the ribs, unless of course they puncture a lung or so. They just heal themselves in time.
    Cheers
    Brian
