Back pain
A report in some Newspapers ,stated that many wave surfers in Australia, with daily and constant immersion in the ocean, over many years , did not suffer, from the many types of back pain and arthritis,we all experience as we grow older,so my next move was to join the surfers, and for me it works, relief from aches and pain for few days, may not work for everyone

Re: Back pain
May well be true, but one major factor here which has a lot to do with such aliments is the climate. More sunshine, milder winters and not the damp cold that is often found in UK and some northern countries.

Re: Back pain
My experience with the salt water treatment, for back pain with a daily application on the area of pain, has been mostly positive, there are short and long periods of relief, with little cost involved it is worth the effort

Re: Back pain
Must be good as most Sunday mornings the footy players can be seen standing in the sea. Apparently good for recovery of the legs.
But there is also a problem, last week they thought there was a submarine in the bay as all they could see was a little white spot like the lens of a periscope.
The it came to the surface, a female of that lot dressed in the full gear taking a dip in the bay.

Re: Back pain
My further investigation, into back pain of all types, from the computer files and data ,application of ice packs ,to the affected areas, for 20 mins,is recommended ,so my next action was to use this advice, and hey presto it works, many weeks now of pain free living, the fridge is now storing frozen towels all ready for instant application, and costs nothing, compared to creams and heat pads,a firm level mattress is advised, good health to all from JB

Re: Back pain
I've suffered with back pain since I was in my twenties, and added hip pain about ten years ago. I've tried heat, cold, heel lifters in each shoe, steroid shots in both hip and back. I have two battery operating belts (hip and back) that gives a regulated electric charge. This offers relief while being zapped but it soon wears off. the clincher that there was no solution to chronic back pain was when a specialist I see for different, complaint who is a full professor and head of his specialty's department suddenly retired due to his chronic back pain. Well if he couldn't be rid of back pain who the heck could?
I must digress for a moment. Ten years ago I was badly injured in a boating accident. The boat I was on hit the submerged remains of a tree and was stopped dead in the water. The trouble was I didn't, I was thrown against a boat seat and broke five ribs and punctured a lung. I was medivacked by helicopter to Charleston (seventy miles away), in intensive care for ten days. My ribs caved-in and I lost a third of my left lung. Altogether I was in hospital for a month.
I always slept on my left side and close to the edge of a bed no matter the size of the bed. We have a king size bed. I picked up this habit in the MN, the way the bunks lay and sort of ready to jump out of my bunk a bit sharpish like. This way of sleeping was out after my accident. I would have to have six pillows around and under me to force myself to sleep on my back or the right side instead of my left.
Back to my back, no pun intended. When I found out about my doctor pulling the plug because of his back, I figured that was it. My wife did some investigations about an adjustable bed. Those of you who have been in hospital would be familiar with them. You can raise the front from prone to sitting upright and both raise and bend the legs at the knees. My wife found there were two extra long twin automatic bed platforms and mattresses that together fit a king bedframe. We visited a couple of mattress shops and tried them out. It seemed pretty good. I could push a couple of buttons and lock it into the same position as all those pillows and be much more comfortable. Until I saw the price. No way, no way was I going to spend that kind of money to get rid of six pillows. My wife kept on, and on. "We're not paying for it...the kids are and they're grown up, they won't even know if you don't tell them they are paying for it...blah, blah, blah. Etcetera, etcetera." we bought them!
It's the best investment in my comfort my kids have ever bought me.
The doctors, over here, have a way of trying to understand the level of pain one has ( a number between one and ten, one being the lowest number of pain) except everybody reacts to pain in a different manner, some are heroes, some are whingers. The best I can say is a ten is a drop kick between the legs, or four compacted wisdom teeth, five is an earache or a toothache of a late Friday evening and all dentists have left town for the weekend. My back and hip ache ranged from about a five to a seven, constantly with just temporary relief. We've had our automatic bed for just over a month and it's heaven. I have just a one. Just enough to let me know it's lurking, but a piece of cake.
We went away for a weekend and the hotel bed liked to kill me. I forgot my extra pillows. Couldn't wait to get home and play with the buttons and find comfort.
Now I can raise my head and shoulders to a semi-siting position and raise my knees up and pain is gone.
Thanks kids.

Re: Back pain
I have a lot of severe back pain. I try to make my body accept pain as a normal way of life.
. Very hard to do, been working on it for a long time. Tried several pain killers, But do not like to put any kind of drug into my body, long term they do you no good.
I have fallen off a mast, had my leg crushed, A steel Podger fell 40 feet while steel erecting and broke four ribs, just bent down or it would have hit me on the head and killed me, near drowned, had many other falls, etc.
With all the accidents I have had , broke legs three times, broke right arm, broken thumb falling downstairs in a Greek Brothel, four broken ribs, broken collar bone and torn clavicles in the Antarctic with a nasty elephants seal, a fractured skull , several whip lash injuries in car crashes. and many other injuries with over 120 stitches.
I must try to be more careful in future,
Where was Health and Safety when I needed them,?
Its being so cheerful that keeps me going.
Cheers
Brian.
