    Stopping smoking is Easy,
I stopped a million times, then started again,
I was on 80 cigs a day when at sea, Four Packs.
, Then one day, my son, the Doctor, took me to the Dissecting Room at Liverpool Uni-Hospital when they had an open day.
He showed me the Lungs of dead people who were smokers, a lot were like Black gunge,
He said , "If you wore your lungs on the outside, you would never smoke. because your lungs are going like these and you will Die a Horrible Painful Death.".
I had a new 20 pack of cigs in my pocket, I screwed them up and binned them.
I had a ball of Fear in my chest, I never ever touched one again.and never will, It is a Killer. That was 25 years ago on 4th of August. I am convinced that if I had not stopped I would now be Dead.
Smoking killed my ex Wife 12 months ago today, she ended up in a wheel chair and sucking on Oxygen day and night and then died.
A mate was coughing his lungs up outside the pub sucking on a ciggy, I said, Stop Smoking Peter, he says, I would rather be dead than pack up smoking, I told him, You pack up smoking when you are Dead so why not stop while you are still alive. A week later he was diagnosed with Lung Cancer, it spread to a Tumour in his brain and it took 12 months of Screaming Pain, 24 hours a day Nursing, even Morphine could not kill the pain, and he Died a Horrible Painful Death, he was a skeleton, weighed 5 stone when he died.
Many more friends have died a Horrible Death like that ALL BECAUSE OF SMOKING. IT IS A KILLER.
You may feel OK today, what about Tomorrow??????????????????? Then it will be too late.

there is only one way to stop smoking, it is called willpower. stop and don't start again. all these aids are for people who haven't the will power to go cold turkey. you will be pleased to know that lots of people think you are a big baby who dosen't want to give up his dummy. i started when i was about seven and stopped when i was 62. i found that people who smoke enjoy blowing smoke your way because they are jealous.
i have clicked the dislike button on a couple of posts because i think they are wrong. the posts not the person.

Hi shipmates, Hi louis, I was a chain smoker like many of us on here it was part of the Merchant navy. in my time Smoke/co before I quit, I was on 60 -70 a day and cigars and pipe and snuff and more ? but thats how I did things back then, But I gave it up after many failed attempts? you must keep trying, you will win in the end . I am today a non smoker, but still after 20 years I sometimes after a bad day I could do with one, but think of the bad time I had giving up , so dont' give in , think of your life {cancer and many other diseases' that will kill you} just because you smoke, and The money you will save .... "The very best of luck" dont give in just do it ....

Dear Louis, Well done so far!!...., Wish I'd had this post to give to my father when he was alive and smoking!.... For the past 8yrs I've had to content myself with kissing his photograph goodnight.

Many thanks for your replies and support, although we have never met I think of you all as friends and I know the advice is well meant.
I will take each day as it comes and also see if I can get the tablets as mentioned.
I do need help, as a lifelong smoker breaking this habit is extremely difficult with will power alone.

    Hi Louis,
Try to do it without any aids. tablets, electric cigs patches etc,
Or you will spend as much time trying to get off those as your cigs.
think FEAR and just stop. Fear will cure you of craving. It worked for me.
    Good Luck
    Brian.

Like Brian there was a time when I was doing 100 Chesterfields a day but I was young and indestructable. Then ashoe with the prices I had to cut down, then one day I got the flu, only time in my life. I gave up the smokes then and have never looked back. But will power is the only person who can assist you in the battle with the smokes.

Hi shipmates. Some weight gain is normal after you stop smoking, due to the fact nicotine is a weight loss poison.. But you can go on a diet to control your weight? or take up a new hobby like swimming? or cut down on tabb-nabbs.... but dont use it as an excuse to keep smoking...
