I understand that the French also only use the French language in Hospitals and in the Court system. If yu need an interpreter you pay for one! nt like the UK,where forms are in umpteen lingos, and we pay for all this, the French are not that daft!

A slight change of course with this one -- this is a report on the Greek health services. Friends of ours like to cycle and have done so in any number of countries around the world. Their last trip was to the Greek islands, but unlucky for them Geoff had a nasty fall when he fell off his bike on a steep ungraded road and damaged his knee. A local medic cleaned and dressed the knee and arranged for emergency transport by sea to the mainland. Geoff had further treatment in hospital in Athens which fixed the problem. On discharge he was told there would be a charge for his treatment which had to be paid there and then. Geoff opened this envelope and had a look at the account, expecting to see something in the high thousands but was staggered to see that all he had to pay was 2 Euros !! Apparently Greece has special arrangements for tourists who need medical attention -- what a brilliant idea, pity the US does not follow suit. Regards Peter in NZ.

In Greece they ask for the European Health card , after that all is almost free as you stated , the prescriptions have to be paid for if you go to the Pharmacy , but are all subsidised , I have had a couple of falls over the years , a lot of their doctors seem to have trained in London .
