    Default Medical Then/Now

As we get older more and more medical problems appear. In our short miniscule of time on this earth think of how the great medical minds have changed their minds over and over again, far from being an exact science it is a science which never ceases some of us take it as Gods truth others accept with a bit of sceptism. Think how not too long back Salt Tablets were prescribed and nearly forced down your neck, believe in the forces you could be put on a charge if found not taking the prescribed dose. Now it is very difficult to even buy at the chemist as I found out when trying to purchase for private use. For those who took first aid courses in the 50 60 and even 70"s. Treating a shock victim, standard procedure keep him/her warm... Blanket, if smoked give a cigarette and a tot of spirits (whiskey or Brandy or such) think you would fail if gave that answer now. There must be numerous other remedies now considered defunct, but were used in the past hopefully without causing the death of the victim. Another, wine is now considered beneficial, also chocolate, before was a no no. The only answer is when the likes of such appear cram as much down your neck before once again some maestro comes out with another earth shattering answer or remedy for us living another 20 minutes or so longer. John S.

JP ..Another good reason why everybody should have their dna on a world wide computer. Apart from catching criminals am sure it maybe worth something to the medical profession in years to come. To hell with these civil liberties people. JS

#4 I take 6 different tablets a day and don't know what some are for. Was taking 7 up until 2 days ago as was taking pain killers for what I thought was Divictulitas coming back. Had that last year and it took a week to find out what it was. Only found out with a full body scan, however was pleased my liver was still intact which surprised me. Cheers John S

In 1947 in the tropics our stokehold and galley crew got a good slug of rum when we took our enamel (or tin) mugs to the queue in front of the storeroom.

Damned site more palatable than the M & B's or the number 9s (no number 9's give him two 4s and owe him one) of the 14/18 war or the stuff we regularly chuck down our throats these days. In fifty years time the 'experts' will decry what we now use. No doubt we are still on the perch because of Louis' plastic bag but I augment this with a respectable red wine, lots of fresh fruit and vegetables and obeying my dog's demand for walkies. It's a bit of a bu**er but of late yeast makes me crook!!
