Brian, I hardly think that your 6.8 PSA couldn't wait for another three weeks.

My oncologist Dr. Do (six months visits) told me when mine started to rise from almost zero after the radiation and hormone treatment that if it gets to 2.00 we would need to consider further treatment.

You need some action and as for radiation Dr. Do said there is a newer safety treatment. they inject gold into the prostate that enables them to absolutely pin point the rays and avoid the periphery damage (In my lower bowel) that nearly killed me last year. The 'Lucrin' hormone injections were also a great help in getting me right.

I was first diagnosed in early 2008 with a PSA of 19.00 or 20.00 and a Gleason scale of 9 (out of 10) of activity and I am still smiling.

    Good luck with your visit.

For over seventy year old men over 5 is regarded as elevated , but that is not the only indicator and by no means os it infallible , you can use the NHS direct website which explains it well , but there are so many things affecting the result that can give a false positive

Don't be Brian. You are the person who will ask all the questions and get the right answers. It is a matter of getting the treatment, if such is considered necessary, that you are most comfortable with after you get all the facts. Let me know the outcome of your consultation if you will.

Richard I wish you well for next week, know what it is all about now. Lot better than the repair I had in 1965, used the net then but it was a new idea then. Poking it back can cause some concern to others when they see you do it in public, but what the hell we are according to the book mature now, well phyicaly anyway, mentaly, well therein lies the question!!

Brian, anyhting over 7 is considered bad, but it all depends on what your original base level was. I know a guy who had a PSA of 45 and nothing wrong with him, mine was only 4.5 when I had it out, the prostate that is but it is more than likely you will die with it not from it.
