    Default Santona

I JOINED THE SANTONA IN JUNE 1970 ,with another lad from Dublin .He had an accident in Liverpool and was paid off .A lot of the Belfast lads paid off in Glasgow just before we sailed from Glasgow for the Lakes never seen any of them again ,The rest of the A/BS joined from Greenock Bosun was a Belfast man (KELLY)did a bit of boxing in his day ,a descent man .The Santona was a Donaldson BOAT taken over by Headline.

Anthony, welcome tot he site, best around. If you care to list all your ships with some dates it is quite possible you will hear from those you are seeking. So sit back with a cold one and enjoy ther voyage.

    Default Anthony Gilligan

hi Anthony, I had a short trip on the Santona in 1968 as relief 4th engineer just before I finished with Head Line, still have a Head Line/ Donaldson Line tie on my rack ( navy blue with a red white and blue flag with a D in the middle and the old redhand on a shield) " what a sad old man I am.

She liked a good rock&roll ! After her Head Line days she was sold to the Maldives & she became the Maldive Trader. She was featured on the Maldives postage stamp. Not a bad tribute to a grand wee ship.
I was Chief Cook on her 8 Oct 1970 - 2 Feb 1971. Mark Neil was 2nd Std, Jimmy Nelson was 2nd Ck., Seaton was the old man. We took NAAFI stores to Cyprus & had a ball on 'Cargo Brand' Harp Lager straight from the keg. Hic!

Hi Anthony, you and I must have been on her at the same time as I met my wife in toronto on july 20 1970 when I was on her(the Santona). If my memory serves me right (and it doesn't happen often these days),Willie Scott was 4th eng,I was 3rd eng,Johnny Harrison 2nd eng? Tommy Purdy chief eng. On the deck side I think were Harry Brown, Norman Stark ?(was harbourmaster in Vancouver) don't remember the mate or 2nd mate.
