Hello.
My Father Peter McCarthy was a deck cadet/Officer during WW2. I think his first ship was Trevalgan. He told me a few tales of his time there but left no details of his trips. He left to go to Furness Withy in the late forties/early fifties then on to the RFA where he became a master in 1962,retiring in 1983. I am still at sea as a Chief Engineer but life is poor compared to this previous age.
Best wishes,
Brian McCarthy
Thanks for posting Brian, read with interest.
Regards,
Keith.

Finally got to the museum in St Ives today after 2 previous attempts , and to the Hains steamship room. Saw a photo of my old ship, she started life as Harpagus, and the front section was blown off by a mine in 1944 in the approaches to Arromanches, the stern section was towed to Southampton, and thence to the Tyne, a 190 ft section was bolted on and sold to Hains as the Treworlas. I joined the Treworlas in 1958 in the glorious rank of Peggy!. She was finally grounded on a reef in the Red Sea somewhere, and became a total loss in 1960. Quite a chequered career , kt
