" Maratha Envoy " would that be Seahorse Ship Management Ltd. ?
I was on the M.V. " Amber Pacific " from May to December ,1976.
The worst bunch of nut cases I have ever sailed with !!!
Laurie.
#55...Maratha Endeavour and Maratha Envoy under Bahamas flag and managed by Fife Shipping of London. all other Maratha ships under Indian flag, and belonged to Chowgules Shipping of Marmagoa. Maratha as you know was an Indian tribe of people of long ago but the only Europeans on ships was master mate and chief engineer, if you were one of those 3, you would be excused of being bats on joining the other 2. The two with British senior officers came under the company heading of Chowgule Steamships Bahamas. Was on both ships for a total of nearly 3 years. None of these 6 week voyages in those days. As returned to the continent a few times the wife and family used to fly across before I lost memory on what they looked like. Cheers JWS
Laurie see on your cv you have mt Beechwood is this the JIJ Beechwood, the ore carrier, which was my first British ship coming back from foreign flag. If the mt stands for motor tanker and is correct is obviously a different vessel. Cheers JWS.
Captain J F Oakley had a very interesting career , J F Oakley worth reading
I did three trips on the Stirling Castle with Captain Oakley, mind as deck boy never saw much of him , except the one trip i was bridge boy Gofor, but he had an interesting history. i think i posted that story on here some time back. When i think in my time at sea 58-64 a lot of the skippers would have been war time served, and probably not impressed with the goings on of us youngsters. kt
he served in both wars , it is a good read on bancstaffregistet
Just read your post.
M.T." Beechwood " was a tanker. I said on her from May to July, 1967- grain from Rosario and Buenos Aries to Antwerp and Rotterdam.
