    Thei is the BBC home service, here is the shipping forecast.

    Rockall, Shannon and Shetland will be effected by a deep trough over..................

    I recall as a young lad listening to such, having no idea where or what they were talking of.

    Do the BBC still offer such advice now?

    #1. John starting off in the bay of Biscay and going North up to the West of uk and Ireland and hence clockwise and coming down to the East of Uk and down the Channel and back into the Bay of Biscay , every mariner should know them especially those on the coast.
    They are Finisterre, Sole, Lundy, Fasnet, Shannon, Irish Sea, Skye, Malin, Rockdall , Hebrides, Bailey, SE Iceland, Faroes, Fair Isle, Viking, North Utshire, South Utshire, Forties , Cromarty, Forth, Fisher , Dogger, Tyne, German Bight, Humber, Thames,Wight, Plymouth,and back into Biscay, E.O.A. ( errors and omissions accepted ). Hope you didn’t get seasick. Cheers JS.

    BBC 4 still broadcast the Shipping forecast. It is broadcast 4 times a a day or is available online.
