Re: Honours System
There was the story that the people wanted Sadam out, he was a terroir to his people.
But the west refused to do anything.
So a story about WMD was fabricated by some bright ones there, the result, he got the chop
But how many others desecrate the system?
Spent six months with the Tax office head office London back in late 60's, was working for contract caterers there.
The public servants, if those there were evidence of all public servants then no wonder there are some very odd awards given.
Pack of old crocks who had more consideration for their upcoming leave than anything such as the correct manner of initiating an award.

Re: Honours System
The British got rid of Qaddafi in Libya as well never mind who killed him, he was in the beginning of putting huge water pipes one could drive a double decker bus through, he intended covering the Country with the help of the oil money, but someone else thought the money would be better off in their foreign pockets, it has always been so in the Middle East.

Re: Honours System
It was also said at the time that he ( Gaddiffi) was threatening to reveal conversations privately with certain persons in the so called echelons of upper society to which there would have been some very red faces. I believe the Lockerbie bomber and his subsequent release had a lot more strings attached to it than met the eye. JS

Re: Honours System
If those interested the attached may be worth a read.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-12606922
There is currently a BBC factual drama TV series about the Lockerbie bombing and the bringing down of Pan AM 103.
Well worth a watch , when watching it it is hard not to become emotional, the horrors those poor people doing the investigation.
One Scottish Officer was so affected it led to him taking his own life. It is on BBC1 Sundays & Mondays or BBC I player.
As usual the USA wanted total control of the Bombing FBI, thankfully the UK Government insisted / Scottish Government that they would take the lead in the investigation as they believed rightly so the USa may not want all the facts to come out, it would appear the reason they is due to CIA involvement and dirty tricks by foreign terror groups.
