No James, here in Oz it is your choice who you put as religion or as next of kin.

Des, You may not like the concept of nuclear power but it will in time come.
Some 35 countries are already looking at installing it along with UK who last week said they will consider a large number, maybe as many as 20, modular nuclear power staions.
    Happy daze John in Oz.

All of my relatives still live there and hate it. I moved out when it started to happen, and thank God I did, but it's spreading pretty fast now as London expands.
Most of the pubs I knew, don't exist any more. They've been turned into foreign establishments, to suit the local population.

Some may see this post as a racist comment, but it's not. It's a true description of how things are, not an opinion.
Most certainly not racist and over here you can transpose Amsterdam for London .

#20 Des, in the UK Cumbria has the highest rates of Cancer per capitia. This could be related to a radioactive cloud that was formed due to an incident in 1957 at the nuclear plant then called Windscale. It is recorded as one of the worlds worst incidents on a scale of 1 to 7 it scores a 5. Then there was the fall out from Chernobyl 1986 disaster.
Certainly as far as Cumbria goes cancer rates are 72% higher than the rest of the UK, Cervical cancer 35% higher, Oesophageal cancer 54% higher.
Cumbria cancer rates are 12% higher than the rest of the Northwest of England.
There was joke going round after the Chernobyl accident that there were little green Aliens spotted in the Cumbrian hills, on investigation it was found that it was the sheep glowing in the dark.
North Wales was also badly affected from Chernobyl as there are high levels of contaminated ground on the hill tops.
For years Sheep farmers were paid compensation for loss of earnings as they were not allowed to sell there sheep(Hill Farms)
I think it was compulsory that all sheep in the Northern parts of the UK to be tested for radioactive levels.

No need to worry about worldy things soon, all due to Trump and Putin being bestest buddies, we'll all end up either American or Russian.
"Peace at any cost" I think it's called.

I remember once sailing across the Pacific, and seeing millions of dead fish, big and small. these fish were in a line for miles and miles, for hours and hours. Someone said it was caused by the French testing their bombs on some islands out that way, and the currents had shifted them for hundreds of miles.
The discussion at the time was about islanders getting hold of them and eating them, or other fish eating them, then getting caught for food, and spreading illness.

I grew up in Cumbria, lived around 40 miles as the crow flies from windscale nuclear power station in 57 and remember that incident. As to whether that and the Chernobyl incident is the reason for Cumbria high cancer rate in the north west is debatable given that it also has the oldest population in the north west.

In the mid 90s I was working for a company who manufactured corrosion protection materials, I worked is a specialised materials division and was asked one day to make a joint visit with a guy from their standard materials division who was a regular visito to that site in Cumbria. He lived in Sunderland and he arranged to pick me up on his way over after he had been to the fish market in Sunderland, On the way over I asked him what was the crack about taking fish from Sunderland to the west coast. He told me he took a box of fish every time he went over as the engineers he used to visit would not buy fish locally that was caught in the sea off Cumbria. Make your own assumptions about why.

Perhaps John , But that Windscale incident was played down as not being as bad as it was at that time. Millions of Gallons of milk dumped Why?

Radiation exposure for Sellafields workers in the county may have also contributed."

Why is that those pushing for nuclear here in Oz all seem to be of the age that will not be around when they come on line. Bloody selfish barstewards is my reply. As for this Dutton pushing for it to improve his election chances, It is just that as all he is trying to do is to get the mining looby onside and lets face it. He will not be in governement if they happen. Was it not the LNP that said that technology would take care of climate problems. But lets not let common sense get in the way of getting a vote hey.
That's the way the mop flops.

My thanks to Brian for this site.

The situation is that so many countries are looking for ways to get energy as cheap as they can.
    Got to please the masses.
In the end Nuclear and Hydrogen will be the big winners powering all industry and vehicles.
The push for Hydrogen is well on the way and countries such as France way ahead in the Nuclear race.
    Happy daze John in Oz.
