Re: Red box
Thing is Des if Trump wins , which looks very likely, for the western world it is squaky bum time. Trump has already told Europe pay up what you owe NATO or you are on your own. Sitting here on Americas little aircraft carrier the UK, old Vladimr Putin will not make the same mistake as Hitler did, he will sink the aircraft carrier first. As they said on Dads Army we are all doomed lol.

Re: Red box
I see your PM has said he is going to solve the problem with children and the use of Social media.
Thankfully there are a lot more voicing concerns about the problems that kids are spending so much time of social media.
My grand daughters get 10 minutes during the day and 10 minutes at night , none of the 2 have there own mobile phones, but they have a laptop which is kept in full view in the lounge.
As my son says though it is an uphill battle to police them.

Re: Red box
Well James it is like this.
A bill has passed the house which will make it the responsibility of the social media companies, to make it impossible for those under 16 to be able to access the media of such companies.
But as we know at times our PM is a dreamer who reacts to social issues over which he has none or little control.
But with a feral erection next year he has to be seen doing something.
Brought about by the suicide of a young girl bullied on social media.
But for most sane people they know it is the responsibility of the PARENTS.

Re: Red box
How do you stop a 15 year old from reading a newspaper or watching TV ? They took the parental control of such away from parents some time ago. Most parents put most of their kids in school where the teachers are further restricted in the handling of wayward kids. Spare the rod and spoil the child is that obvious today in most cases, that shows the governing body of child education must be living in a land of makebelieve somewhere over the rainbow maybe ? Cheers JS

Re: Red box
John like all politicians they will always pop out with a gem if they think it will get them a favourable sound bite.
But something needs to be done concerning the use of social media by young people and I mean young people.
I was on the bus a day or so back unusual for me to be on a bus as schools get out all girls from the local Grammar school. Nearly everyone was on the phones. One young girl was sitting beside me. I asked her what was going on with the phones. Bless her, she said just a load of rubbish really. Thing is as soon as we go into school the rule is Phones off and if anyones phone pings in class the phone is taken away. She made me laugh the phone gets sent to detention and you have to go with it if you want it back lol. She says it is like you see on the TV you get one phone call, you can phone your parents to tell them you will be home late as you are in detention and explain why. Do you not have a phone? No it is in detention for a week at home mum took it off me. A nice kid when I was getting off the bus she cleared the isle for me.
One good thing seems to be going on nationwide here is the numbers that are joining the Scouts& Guides movements are increasing, this has to be a positive surely.
I bought my poppy last weekend loads of sellers out and about and most seemed to be from the air cadets.

Re: Red box
Like most sensible people I don't agree with kids having a mobile phone , unless it has been altered to prevent them getting on certain web sites, that way the grubs can't con them, but then I am dreaming, new ways to trap people are being invented every day. Washing the dishes this morning I watched four kids around six or seven years old skate boarding over on the school car park, a parent sitting in the car watching, what a change from kids on TV staring at a mobile.

#17 If the parents excuse is that they want communication with their little darlings all the time then it would be cheaper to buy a couple of Walky Talkys Des. JS

Re: Red box
Might be a good idea John, as now they do the walky bit but not the talkie, all too busy looking at the screen.
