How many
While in hospital I had time to cruise the net a bit more than usual.
I came across an item put in by a global conservation group in UK looking at needs for the future to supply enough power for the world.
They estimate that to supply enough basic level electricity for the world we will need some 51 billion solar panels, 25 billion batteries and another 119 coper mines opened to provide the much needed copper.
Not a lot of mention regarding wind turbines as they considered them to be too unreliable and too expensive to install.
Off shore ones require 4 tons underwater for each ton above.
With the current global population at about 8.1 billion it will require 7 solar panels per person.
We currently have 14 on our roof so we will be OK.
Happy daze John in Oz.
Life is too short to blend in.

Re: How many
What was that song John originating in America during the depression ,” Brother can you spare a dime” ? You’ll have people outside your door singing “ Brother can you spare a solar panel”. Cheers JS.

Actually just me and her Indoors , but we both dont like the Solar Panels . I know they are a saving for ones Power Bills, but have always dreaded having them of the Roof. Think of real Storms, damage to them can be great and it can also i have seen cause a lot of Roof damage! I think possibly with Metal Roofing (Colourbond) it may be a bit safer, but with Concrete Tiles ??? Also the extra Weight on the Roof , wonder what that would be say for your 14 Panels ?? But as said before on discussions, each to his won i guess and also always say Good Luck to those who have them, and save Money. I think the only time i would have them is when they come out with a Separate Construction that the Panels can be Mounted on, like in the back Yard somewhere and out of sight of course to any Neighbours!
In the meantime we will just continue on on our merry way paying higher and higher prices for Electricity! LOL

Doc, the panels are very lightweight, mounted on a lightweight framework which distributes the load.

At the mo, the UK is being battered gy storm Gerrit. Last night BBC News feature showed a segment on a wind turbine in Ayrshire, first one blade snapped off, followed quickly by the other two.

Re: How many
John.
You have opened my eyes, I can see it all now everyone with a small solar panel on their back, a battery in the pocket while outside, then plugging the battery into the TV, or the oven etc, problem solved.
