Here in Oz most houses have ducted gas heating, though some still use log burners.
We had a big log burner as well as ducted heating, sitting front of the log burner on a cold winters night was great.
But wood costs rose, got to $360 a meter and we were burning 6 each winter.
Then some councils banned them saying they created to global warming?????
So we took ours out and put in a gas fire.
Fine at night when only using one room.
But this year added a reverse cycle air conditioner in the main living area, our old air con had died after some 24 years of use.
Great during the sunny winter days when it runs on our Solar system and cost nothing to run.
