Problem is in the UK you have to have a licence if you want a TV, that is under current regulations. The BBC still make excellent programmes. For me it is the so called soaps I hate. East enders as soon as the music starts for that I know it is time to change channels, Thankfully we have BBC I Player and ITVX along with other free view channels. I have recently cancelled Sky TV and Sky sports saving myself some £50 a month.
What I can't understand is why the England football team representing this country is allowed to pontificate by worshipping an anarchist group by being allowed to posture themselves on one knee before a game and yet the government use all means and nepotistic gained influence to silence selective individuals.
free speech for one not the other it seems the loan deal for boris was soon covered over? jobs for the boys thats if you are one of their boys and we pay a licence for all the corruption that goes on i wonder if the bosses knighthood has gone down the pan of the BBC??? jp
The term today Free Speech I take with a pinch of salt John. With all the restrictions on how we use descriptive words about others and our language about sexes and in between sexes which have to modify and have been passed by law by our ever zealous government incorporating them into the law of the land , make the term free speech something of a point for debate. I fail to see the term free as being true any more . We go along the same as other countries be they communist , dictatorships or any new fangled political party. There is not much to choose between any of them . JS
"Post 16, so what is the difference between Sugar and Lineker?"
That's exactly the comparison I was making, perhaps I wasn't being obvious enough. I'm sure other people got the jist of it though.
"Your last sentence is beyond paraday, the disciplinary action (if that's what it was) was conducted by the the Director General of the BBC, one Tim Davies and not the BBC Chairman an nothing do with the Tory Party."
Tim Davies - Director General of the BBC - is a member of the Conservative party, was Deputy Chairman of the Hammersmith and Fulham Conservative Association and stood as a candidate as a Conservative Councillor.
His boss is of course Richard Sharp - Chairman of the BBC - who is also a member of the Conservative party. In addition he's donated £400,000 to the Tories. A few weeks before he was appointed Chairman of the BBC he helped Boris Johnson (then Prime Minister) secure an £800,000 personal loan.
The Tories are of course livid that a public figure has dared to criticise them. The BBC has not taken action in the past with similar incidents, yet Tim Davies chooses to do so now.
In your innocence you obviously believe this is all entirely coincidental.
However it stands to reason that quite a lot of other people in this country aren't quite so trusting.
As for Linekers tax affairs, yet again you are not posting the facts.
You will find that whilst he is in dispute with HMRC he has in fact already paid the £4.9million in full and the nature of his dispute is that he is arguing that he is due a refund on that tax.
The HMRC position is that he is an employee of both the BBC and BT Sport, rather than as a true freelancer. You omitted - intentionally or otherwise - the bit about BT Sport. So even HMRC don't consider him solely an employee of the BBC. Interesting that.
I suppose Tories think that anyone who does pay tax is some kind of "socialist", whereas their usual trick is just to "forget" to pay it as with their latest scandal with the former Chairman of the Tory party.
Lineker donated £140,000 to the Red Cross at the height of Covid and encouraged others to fund raise. He supports dozens of charities such as those involved with AIDS & HIV, Disadvantaged Youths, Cancer, Children, Conservation, Disaster Relief, Education, Environment, Fair Trade, Grief Support, Health, Homelessness, Human Rights, Hunger, Literacy, Poverty, Refugees and Veterans Support. He's also taken two refugees into his own home.
Whilst plenty of folk are no doubt desperate to smear the man, to me at least he is far more of a human being than any of his detractors ever could be.
Happens in all walks of life john ....in the shipyards most apprentices were often sons of the father of course NI was a prime situation only based on religion ....the ex liverpool mayor story has gone off the headlines has the case been to court yet ......we are back to the earlier statement ......we all will work on average to give our families a better life but you are iether happy to beg through life or go for gold .....but worst of course is the pure greed of such a percentage of human beings......such is mankind R683532
