The UK economy has bombed. I watched the Andrew Neil show last night. Business secretary Grant Shapps was a guest on the show. Talked total rubbish, Andrew Neil could hardly keep a straight face. UK economy is performing worse than Russia.
    https://financial-news.co.uk/uk-to-b...onomy-in-2023/

The bank of England has increased interest rates to base rate 4%

The current Bank of England base rate is 4%.

The base rate has been rocketing over the past year or so. It dropped to an all time low of 0.1% in March 2020 to try and help the economy survive impact of coronavirus, and stayed there until November 2021.

Then the rises began. By March the base rate was 0.75%, by September it was 2.25% and by the ned of the year rates were 3.5% - the highest they'd been for more than a decade.

The the Bank's rate-setting Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) didn't meet in January, but raised rates by another 0.5 points in February to leave them at 4%.

    Well Vic time will tell.
Did you watch the Putin V The west on tonights TV? interesting but admit I only caught the last 25 minutes.
It would appear that Camerons failure to win support for bombing Syria as far as that went was it took the UK out of the conflict. It also influenced the USA so the sit on my **** and do nothing Barrick Obama did exactly that and sat on his ****.
If NATO had had the balls and went in we may not be having the war in Ukraine today. The Turks had a Russian plane enter their air space. They were told to alter course. The russian refused or played dumb. Turkey blew the Russian out of the sky. Russia huffed and puffed but in the end did very little. Turkey said Russia entered NATO airspace. Basically don't mess with the Turks.

Of course other western countries are squeaky clean
A lot of decisions about who hosts what sporting events I think it depends on how thick the brown padded envelope is.

James, All countries athletes use drugs, if you remember the Australian swimmer who refused to stand along side the Chinese swimming champion, well surprise; surprise he was later charged with using an illegal drug, as was one of our top women swimmers. Now you are going to say Putin organised the drugs.

UK is not the only country to experience interest rate rises, ours here in Oz went up another 0.25% today.
It is quite possible it will not be the last.

AS to Russia and the EU, Slovakia, Bulgaria and Hungary still give support to Russia according to the latest news.
    Happy daze John in Oz.

Hungary had sanctions imposed on them by the EU.

The compromise with the government of right-wing Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban means the EU can meet its promise to keep supporting Ukraine as it fights Russia's invasion.

It allows Brussels to still exert some pressure on Hungary over Budapest in a long-running dispute with Orban over concerns about the rule of law and democracy there.

The agreement frees up some €1.2 billion for Hungary, but Orban will still need to convince his fellow EU members that he has carried out key reforms to obtain the remaining €6.3 billion.

The freezing of EU funds to a member state over concerns about democracy is unprecedented. The EU is also holding back some €5.8 billion of post-COVID-19 EU recovery money because of Hungary's democratic backsliding and concern about judicial independence.

Considering that Russia invaded Hungary in 1956 it would be strange they would be blocking aid to a country that is fighting for it's very existence.

Looks as if Bulggari IS helping Ukraine. Maybe the attached photo is Fake news and the article as well.

Slovakia, well all depends on the news source but Slovakia are a member of NATO since 2004(maybe they are just spying?.

The information was not from some grubby canteen but from a correspondence in Ukraine reporting on the situation of the war.
You see there are many sources of info out there.

It was from the news service on SBS, that is Special Broadcasting Service, an Oz TV station that reports on world news.

It does not bother with titillating the views with crap as do most commercial stations, or like the national broadcaster that at best produces a second rate magazine style news service.

The SBS also during the day puts news broadcasts out in several other languages to allow those of non English speaking backgrounds to see.

The reports are from correspondents in situ no from some in town news desk.

You are not the only member capable of garnering correct info though it would appear you do consider yourself to be just that.
    Happy daze John in Oz.
