Re: Our Monarch.
None of the kings and possibly the Queens also have been noted for their monastic life style, neither were the popes of earlier times. JS

Especially King Henry VIII who destroyed the monasteries and monastic life as he wanted to rule over the churches himself.

Hi Fouro
I think King Henry used to drink wine in the cemetery with Billy Connelly.

#70 Just shows what he had to do , to get a divorce Fouro !!! Today or maybe yesteryear could sign on a ship for 2 years and could get a free one if ship was out for that long . One electrician I sailed with from Shields was very pleased when they agreed to do 2.5 years. I stuck to my 12 months agreement . They were living in a time warp, I wasn’t. JS

Re: Our Monarch.
I could not agree more, changing the monarch for a retired judge/politician/trade unionist? no thanks. Just look at the USA and their so called leader does anyone in their right mind want that? and remember the circus that follows every four years when the elections come up! yuk even worse. If it aint broke leave it alone.

Re: Our Monarch.
That is one of the problems.
Those who for their own benefit want change.
I often think the little green eyed monster is in some but look around the globe, how many nations have a stable manner such as that of a monarchy.

Re: Our Monarch.
Monarchs are like Presidents, there's good ones and bad ones. Time gets rid of one, voters get rid of the other one.

Re: Our Monarch.
The Church of Scotland is a Presbyterian church and recognises only Jesus Christ as King and Head of the church.
Our reigning monarch therefore does not hold the title Supreme Governor of the Church of Scotland.
When attending church services in Scotland, the reigning monarch does so as an ordinary member.

Re: Our Monarch.
All forms of religion are man made to my mind . I was married in a Presbyterian Church , mainly for convenience and I liked the vicar . On the other hand I was brought up in the High Church of England and was taught all the rigmaroles of the Holy Roman Catholic Church. Any church which follows the basics of Christianity which is the 10 Commandments , I would feel comfortable in , the church to me is just a meeting house where people of a similar disposition congregate . I have also been a member of a Methodist church just because they ran the Boys Life Brigade .
To be a good Christian one has to try and live by the Old Testament doctrines which at times I have failed miserably , but there we go we can’t all be perfect . Most of us are sinners . Not like Cappy who is a singer as he stated in a recent post he wakes up doing just that. I wake up coughing and spluttering and yet gave up smoking nearly 40 years ago. Cheers Fouro , like Vera Lynn we’ll meet again , whether Heaven or Hell , we will find out. Cheers JS.
