One flaw Terry, if you get rid of or move large chunks of cash the Government Agencies will find out, and you will be questioned on what you have done with the loot if you are trying to claim benefits.
only way I can see to beat this system is over the years prior to retiring gradually reduce the amount that you have in the Bank, not even sure that will work.

The annual TV licence fee is to increase by £1.50, from £157.50 to £159, from 1 April 2021.

Vic, The government all governments have access to anything you have, I was told when i went on my pension keep a little aside because the tax man will probably want his slice its not a great deal of money that you loose, Its as Brian { Kong } says why not tax benefits in the same way if your over and above the threash hold ithink at present you can have £16,000 without getting looked at but lets not forget we have been in lockdown for the last 18 months and obviously your savings will increase a friend of mine has just had £4,000 taken of him the D W P Wrote saying you obviously dont need as much money coming in and there is not a bloody thing he can do about it. Unfair yes i really think so we haven't been able to holiday go out for a treat such as a nice lunch or meal with our spouses and i think this should be taken into consideration before the government raid your piggy bank and that's all governments so this is not a political post by any means, The only thing i will say is i have read small snippets in the papers online and i think change is coming on this very subject, Lets see if i am correct and await the next budget Regards to you both Terry.

I have just applied for a rebate for my deceased aunt (90). Their response was, it can take three weeks to reply with a decision. Seems a lot longer time than the intervals for them badgering her to pay up or else!

I paid my licence fee weekly by cheque
£5.08- that means they have to take it to the bank and pay it in., A pain in the But for them

#13. Sure.I don't mind forking out £159 per annum to help pay the overstaffed ,-especially with Directors-, obscene salaries in a politically biased,self-governing,self-policing corrupt organisation-- providing they spend our money on scheduling more quality documentaries and other programmes -and show an iota of respect and understanding to it's over- 75 year old citizens by reinstating their free licence fee.
