Yes Colin but as yet we do not really know, they are monitoring things very closely and the Hawkesbury River that is getting higher is Tonight expected to get to some 30 Meters thats mighty high, this would be caused by the Water that is already in places like Windsor having to go nowhere , then banking up and sort of coming back , weird !
Its going to be a very long Night for many, and all we can hope for is that they will all be safe. We will only know the real outcome by Tomorrow Morning, or very late Tonight!
Its really terrible ! Was just watching the News now, and the entire Area there is under Water, with so many Homes that you cannot even see now all gone!
    Cheers

I know many on site are sceptical on global warming but all the abnormal weather events around the world cannot be just a coincidence.

Certainly agree with that , at least in my part of the world, winters are not as cold, and usually wetter and windier. We have not seen snow on the Island for several years, and cannot remember the last significant snow fall. I lived in West sussex as a youngster, and had deep snow every year, does not happen now, kt

Hope you all stay safe and your properties are not water damaged. The UK get severe flooding every winter now, Yorkshire was hit again really badly this years. North West of England , Wales, Central England. All badly hit the last two winters. Not just winter time either last August I cannot remember a day it did rain heavily.
We seem to get storm after storm rolling in of the Atlantic, certainly do seem to be getting more extreme weather now, but nothing to do with climate change some may say.

flooding always comes down a previous route....the route might be from last year or 100 years ago ....nothing is new all has happened before ...they are cycles which come and go sequences will alternate ...buy a house up a hill ..........................and cop a lightening strike...................in spain they still build in old water channels dry for many many years ..then... comes the flood and washes the properties away it happened thousands of years ago forget his name but he took the animals in two by two...one of our older members served his apprentice ship on the ark ....lives in perf .....chief steersman

Remember reading a semi scientific paper about weather changes, it was calculated that the two recent events in the pacific, the tsunami and the earthquake at Fuhushima are reckoned to have shifted the planets axis by a minimal amount, but enough to cause the jet streams normal trajectory to terminate 200 nmiles further south than usual and this has changed weather patterns in the UK and Northern Europe, so will in all probability have a reciprocal effect in the Southern hemisphere.

The scientist also said what makes man think that he is responsible for any changes in the planets actions is beyond comprehension, man and his actions are miniscule atoms in the life of a planet and have no influence on its future, the planets decide their own futures.

Another factor that causes flooding but has not been discussed fully is? Over the years developers with council approval have allowed flood areas to be raised and whole estates built on them and here in NSW they allow private buildings to be built so long as they raise the ground above the flood level. All sounds okay until you take in the fact that when floods occur the natural flow of the water is impeded because the natural flow is stopped and as we all know? Water will find another course to take. Hence floods occurring in other areas because of this. We have an estate not far from me that was built on low lying land with full approval. Yes they suffer and of course they should have been aware when the insurance companies refuse to cover them for flood damage same goes for when they refuse fire damage for those that build in bush fire areas.
That's the way the mop flops.

Man proposes and god deposes, or something like that. Our State Government built a flood prone bridge across the river in Windsor, lot of protests at the time, it is now under water.

These floods are nothing new, according to some the ones of 1961 were far worse.

On the Murray at the weekend in Echuca there is tree with markings of previous floods.
The ones of 1975 were worse than the current ones in many parts of NSW and the one of 1875 covered most of the town and was at a height of over 15 meters above the normal water line.

The current weather patterns are nothing to do with the climate changing, they are the result of the La Nina effect on the southern oceans.
This regularly follows the El Nino one which gives the opposite weather patterns of today.
    Happy daze John in Oz.
