Des, the doctor is right we all know you live at 84.
But who decided what the correct weight should be, we are all different in shape.

I now have to have each year a full blood examination and medical.
All my bits that should be where they are, BP etc are so I will continue to do what I do and the rest can go whistle Dixie for all I care.

When they started tightening up the medical standards for seafarers back in the late 70's or early 80's especially regarding weight, going for my annual medical with C.P.s doctor he used a table from the British health insurances to determine your ideal weight. To obtain this he used calipers to measure the width of your elbow joint, this measurement was used against your height to determine your ideal weight which for me at 6 ft was 88kilos. My pal who was 6ft 3" and had less meat on him than a jockey's whip was told he was obese using those tables.

HA HA! Sounds a bit like the guy in Newcastle who did the offshore medicals, he must have been 80 at least; sit in the waiting room with all the mothers and squalling kids, looking around there were 6 others all waiting for the same.
I got called in first, first question -have you got the money, yes £75, hand whips it away and it disappears in his jacket pocket, are you feeling ok - yes, take your specs off and read that chart, cant see it, ok put them back on, can you read it now? yes.

Coincidence or what, the lady next door who has a marvelous veg garden knocked on our door the day before St Davids day she had four leeks in her hand, She said, I have these left over would you like them, like them! we'd love them, forgot to tell her it was St Davids Day the next day, I will have to tell her when I see her.

Our family doctor whenever he was on a house visit , usually for the kids , would always like to talk about his time in the port health system , and how when on a ship how the captain would always get out the bottle of whiskey to entertain him in the ships saloon. Will never forget him another Scot a Dr.Frazer , he never had any luck with me, although it was a good try .He was a very good doctor as well.

Bill my mother was a Scot from Wishire maybe spelt wrong.As a kid coming in from school I always used to say the usual , what’s for tea Mum, and invariably got the usual answer , stewed bagpipes and fried umbrellas , I grew up still waiting for this feast to materialise. Is there such ? Too late to ask her now. She was in service from the age of 14 and that’s how she knew the Queens mother as she used to work for her before she married George V1. The queens mother that is. One of my mothers sisters reckoned she was related to Mary Queen of Scots , and she used to correspond with Ted Heath another nutter. So was ingrained into me from early childhood to be a Royalist. ...
