    Default Stand and deliver

Received a message today ostensibly from the local post office sorting department requiring me to pay £2.99 for a parcel which had insufficient postage for delivery. Non payment would result in the item being returned to sender. Obviously a scam. A new one to me. Any others out there? I always believe in forwarding these scams so more people are aware.
Incidentally, I AM expecting a parcel delivery. Hope I haven't shot myself in the foot.

Would be a pity if the parcel contained a first aid outfit John. Although don’t know about you but would be a problem for me being able to reach my foot. Cheers JS

My experience of that is that a card is put through my door to tell me that i have to collect from my local office. I told the story some time ago, i had the card saying that to collect said letter addressed to Mrs, to be collected at the sorting office, so i got into the car and drove the 2 miles to the sorting office, where they asked for ID, i showed him my driving licence, his reply the letter is to Mrs Tindell, i told him thats my wife. He said anyone could produce the card that the post had dropped through the door, so would not let me have the letter. By this time i was spitting venom, and drove home and got my wife's passport, returned to collect the letter. The letter turned out to be a birthday card for my wife from my son, it had one of these birthday badges attached to the card, and would not go through the former they use, !!!! kt

I had one last week, pay £1.50 for letter with incorrect postage, I knew it was genuine as delivered by my postie. Paid it online and it was delivered the next day. Turned out to be my payslip for January which had been put in a non standard size envelope but had first class stamp, payment is by dimension and weight these days. The previous month it arrived in the correct sized envelope but only had a 1p stamp on it, yet it arrived overnight.

That scam and a few others has been going on here in Oz for some time.
In the sorting office where you go to collect some items there is a wall full of copies of scams to warn the public.

I very often get calls wit no one on the other end, technology or the mystery man.
Who knows how these things work, or very often do not.
