    More Humbug from me.

I remember waking up and seeing a couple "gifts" wrapped up in newspaper and string. Taking them downstairs to open along with my sister. Grandma and Aunts watching. Open the first one. (faked pleasure) "Oooh! Margaret. Socks." second package "Oooh! underwear." What did you get Margaret?" "Knickers".

I went mad, spoiling my three sons at Christmas. Loading them down with gifts. It was like looking at three sharks in a feeding frenzy.

Looking back I could see I was living the sort of Christmas I wished for through their eyes.

It was as bad for them in the long run as getting knickers. They had no sense of value, which is as bad as being a grinch.

Although i must agree with many here on Xmas being just a Money thing so to spaek, i must also say that i and i am sure many here still have fond Memories of our Childhood days at Xmas time.
Although some times were hard with hardly no Gifts and no Tree, Mum and Dad tried their best to do what was right for us Kids!
But there were others that were so very great and Happy times with lots of Presents , especially when Dad got his Big Bonus the time he was working on the Mines!
    Oh Happy Days!

But seems that its just not the same these days with the Children , well a lot of them anyway ???

We did not all jave happy childhood Xmases,
freezing cold winters , no heat, sat in air raud shelters, living with distant relatives after the house disappeared in a cloud of dust flames and rubble, It took a long time to get back to a normal life with the family reunited again.

With you there Brian, although had three homes disappear into rubble, ended up in a condemned cottage with no gas, electric or water, just a yard pump and paraffin lamps, I still have the main brass one, it still gets polished, as for presents they were whatever mum could make, or pick up in York market, normally a Dinky toy with at least one wheel missing, but never the less we were happy, but it must have been hard on mum

When on the farm ,my Brother and myself used to make Push Cars out of Wire! Wheels and all and they went well ,but Oh ! the pushing around! What fun!
Then made a drilling Rig in the back Area with a Solid Steel Pole and all kinds of Ropes etc , the actual Rig was made of Wood Though, it worked as well, got quite a deep hole in the end!

We did have fun even in the hard times!
