Hi All,
I have just returned home from being taken out by my son and my daughter-in-law for dinner at The Mariners restaurant; a floating restaurant in Ipswich. This was in celebration of my 70th birthday, ( Aug. 24 ), food was superb, service disjointed, Port glasses too small; we have been a number of times and shall do so again. But why are you telling us this I hear you say; well unknown to me my son has been visiting this site, but of course with the restrictions of a visitor, I have told him to join; with a Grandfather, Father and Uncle in either the Royal or Merchant Navy he would find much of interest.
So, shipmates, lads and lassies, if in the near future a Ian Johnson joins please extend to him your normal exemplarily welcome.
Cheers, Paul.

Paul
Only went to Ipswich once, cannot recall what we were discharging there but we tied up right over the road from a brewery that you could take a tour round. Is that still going?

Re: possible new member
Hi John,
That would have been the Tolly Cobbold brewery, all closed now, I went on a tour in the late 90's, they tried to tell us that it was the oldest operating brewery; I mentioned Shepard Neame and they disputed that, then I lost interest in the tour. As a young boy (12 -14), I used to like the Tolly Brown.
Cheers, Paul.
