It would be great if you could easily control your boat using a app. Just enter where you want to go and the rest will be done. A captain is no longer necessary and a lot can be saved on the crew.
Unfortunately, it will take some time to get there.

Robotic automation, the way of the future.
It will come about in great numbers and no doubt have an effect on our lives.
Like all such developments they are good until something goes wrong.

We had a bit of a storm the other side of the city.
Result, no power for almost five days for some.
One of the advantages, or otherwise, of automation?

Thanks for that Kieth, I have only one problem with it, now that they have mapped the Ocean floors, how long before they completely exploit it.

Guess someone will have a friend, relative, Dr or a remote alien etc that will know and pass on more,
    ASAP. Robotically?

We all make mistakes said the dalek (robot) climbing of the trash bin.

I've mentioned before my hobby is family genealogy. I have over 5000 ancestors stored on the "Ancestry" site as Ancestry started my interest with the results of a spit test DNA stating I was 83% Southern English and the balance made up of French, Norwegian, Welsh, Irish, Scots and Germanic Europe. So I started digging in and five years later I have to say they where correct.

I discovered that King William II "Rufus", was a 29th great-great-uncle. I wasn't particularly interested in uncles, so I continued digging in other directions.

Ancestry, continue to send "Hints" of people they think are ancestors of members who store their family tree with them. Out of every 100 to 200 of these hints a gem turns up. It's like the expression for women "You've got to kiss a lot of frogs before you get to the prince", The rest of them are absolute junk and I skim them and dump them and curse.

I got one yesterday, and it's priceless, so I've got to share it with you. These by the way are machine generated, which tells me it's going to be a long long time before they get rid of us and take over the world.

"Hint (from Ancestry). We think we have found the parent of your ancestor."

"King William ll "Rufas" of England, 1068-1135"

    Probable parents:

    "Henry Rogers King, b. 11 Sep. 1900 d. 9 Feb 1988
New Albany, Union, Lee county, Mississippi, USA."

    "Emma Jean Hughes, b. Dec. 24 1900 d. Aug 28 1989 ,
    Lee county, Union, Arkansas, USA

Makes you wonder, did we really make it to the moon?

    A still chuckling Rodney

    Hi Rod.
A few years ago I started to look into my Ancestry, my wife said you know yours to your Grandfather why go back any further? She knows hers as far back as John Constable the painter who was the son of her great grandmothers sister, she said would I want to go back further. Well I have since found out that I have Viking ancestry, and now I have stopped looking, I am worried in case someone sues me for all the pillaging and raping that went on.

Doing the family tree can be great fun.
But it can also throw up some very odd results.

A GGGF who we had been told did some work for the prison service, had in fact been a prisoner at one time.
A bit of theft got him there, but apparently from what we can gather he worked in the prison kitchen for a while.

I have four murderers, and eight murdered, 3 suicides. five killed on crusades, two killed in tournaments, one beheaded in the Tower, 2 hung drawn and quartered, 12 kings of Scotland and only two died in their beds, the rest murdered or killed in battle, I Welsh king murdered and one killed in battle, a bunch of Irish kings killed in battle, two French female ancestors were murderess's, one was also murdered in her bed (beheaded) by an avenging ex-lover who survived her poison. and on and on.

My genealogy books read like historical thriller. Oh! and GGuncle William Rufas ll, King of England, was supposedly killed accidently by an arrow through the lungs. It was often suspected that Walter Tirel the shooter, did the dead on behest of his future father in law, also part of the hunting party, Lord de Clair.

All the hunting party split the scene and left the body to be found by an elderly charcoal burner, and nobody was ever charged, as William's younger brother, the future Henry lst, was part of the hunting party too. William Rufas was a much hated monarch and not the least bit missed by Norman or English. Who said history is boring?

Oh! in the spirit of this thread, I got most of my information on-line, so the machine did a great job for me.

    Cheers, Rodney
